If everyone who struck out was an American, he would really hate it.

Has anybody looked ahead to pitching matchups on July 4?

KC won seven games in April. Gordon, Moss, and Soler all have averages below .200, and Soler isn't even in the bigs anymore. Hosmer had the worst month of his career. Duffy has been on the DL. And the Royals are a game above .500. I don't know how that's even possible.

History is always fun. Unless you're a White Sox fan, I guess.
The A's had three guys -- Matt Olson Jaycob Brugman and Franklin Barreto -- all hit their first career homer runs today against Shields. It's the first time that has happened since the Kansas City Packers of the Federal League did it in 1914.

Yep, and the last time I was in the yard to see him throw, Manny Machado became the first player in history to hit three over-the-fence hone runs in the first three innings.

History gets made when James Shields pitches.

Wow, you mean the Packers used to play baseball in KC before moving to Green Bay! ;)

My favorite Federal League story is about this one player who, after the league was essentially dissolved except for court battles, insisted that he still get paid the second year of his contract in 1916. It went to the courts, and they came up with this weird compromise where the guy would have to show up to the empty ballpark each day at a certain time and do baseball drills for several hours to fulfill his contract and get paid. The weird arrangement lasted for a couple of months until the guy, the defunct team, and the courts agreed that the contract could end in a settlement and he could join another team.
