Charlie Steiner on LA-SD radio broadcast: "The last three seasons, the Dodgers have opened with the Padres, and if they could get it written into the CBA, they would do it the next 33 seasons."

Dodgers about to win third of four, outscoring the Padres 27-10. They opened with three shutouts last year.

James Shields is an ace again - 1.69 ERA, very impressive! Be sure to trade your prospects for him before someone else does - preferably before his next start.

Negatory. Banister believes in getting right back up on that horse, and Dyson will have to shit the bed three or four more times before a move is made.

Yadier Molina, apparently, invested a fair amount of his new contract in pine tar supplies.

Michigan might be the most overrated program in the country. Before their split title in 1997, their last was in 1948, for god's sake.

Not a Michigan fan at all, but they have ended their season ranked in the top 20 in 40 of the last 50 years. Are they rated as 1 of the 3 best programs in the last 50 years, because that would be overrated. But they may be in the Top 10.

Yeah, ranked is great, but they never finish the deal. Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Va. Tech -- ranked almost every year, but never close the deal.

At least the Hokies have made it to the title game. I don't understand Wisconsin not making it at least once.

It has taken Velasquez 94 pitches to get through 4 innings ... but hey, he has 10 strikeouts.

Stroman and Bell, who started Thursday night's game for their respective teams, both wear single-digit uniform numbers -- No. 6 for Stroman and No. 4 for Snell. According to ESPN Stats & Information, their pitching matchup at Tropicana Field on Thursday night marked the first time two single-digit starters had faced off since Sept. 14, 1941, when Johnny Hutchings (who wore No. 5) of the Boston Braves opposed Johnny Schmitz (No. 7) of the Chicago Cubs.

No. 4 plus No. 6 equals one rare MLB feat

Stat geeks came up with this one yesterday regarding Angels vs. A's. First time ever two pitchers whose names end in "gss" started against each other. It was Tyler Skaggs for the Angels and Andrew Triggs for the A's.

So not the first time ever for "gss."
