My kid spotted this story while we were having lunch yesterday. She said Angel Hernandez is suing MLB for discrimination. I said, what are they discriminating against, bad umpiring?

Cubs doing God Bless America pregame, right before the anthem. Assuming they don't double dip in the seventh inning, a welcome development.

Every time Jon Lester looks like he's straightened out, he turns in another stinker like today. Lester has given up up six runs, five of them earned, in five innings against Tampa. Unless they rally, the Cubs will fall a game under .500, but apparently Lester isn't part of the problem.

In all seriousness, it's not like Lester is terrible, but the Cubs are well off what they were in 2016 and he is a significant part of it.

Laz Diaz just kissed Denkinger's wife and said "Baby.......We're home free!"

    Daniel Murphy is a machine.

    Wade Boggs incarnate.

Fulmer hadn't allowed a homer in 73 innings so naturally the worst homer hitting team, the Giants, hit 2 off him.

    They're now at a whopping 70.

I can see the comparison, though Murphy's got a good bit more power. He already has 101 career home runs. Boggs finished his career with 118.

Nothing against Murphy, but he has a ways to go to match Boggs' consistency in terms of average. Boggs batted at least .357 five of his first six full seasons in the majors. The one below that, he hit .325.

Murphy is a great story in his own right. He has certainly proven that last year was no fluke.

It's almost like a guy couldn't have a bad season and then bounce back

Clearly the reports of McCutchen's demise were premature. His numbers are damn impressive when you consider just how bad they looked in late May.
