At least the Pac-12 got five teams into the NIT.
Speaking of which, I love that Boise State is getting screwed out of an NIT home game because of a schedule conflict -- it's hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Ain't that a kick in the nuts?

Gotta say I'm dubious that Notre Dame was actually the first one out. It feels like there was popular pundit sentiment they should be in, and with the Davidson win the committee could pay lip service to that without any risk.

I've seen a lot of bitching about Middle Tennessee being left out. Sorry, Blue Raiders, don't lose to the No. 9 seed in your first game of the tournament for a relentlessly one-bid conference and expect any love from the NCAA.

Don't worry, the NCAA is well on its way to ruining the tournament in a much shorter timeframe than five years.

The pod system sucks because it allows the NCAA to kiss ass and play favorites to some, but not all, high seeds of the same number.

I can't find anything in any NCAA tournament selection material that says 1 seeds are supposed to be given special treatment; the closest I can find is that 1-4 seeds shouldn't be placed in an opening-weekend site that provides a home-court disadvantage.

I expect the NCAA is be as inept as it is. How many freakin' years has Duke and/or NC been allowed to play its first two games in Charlotte, Raleigh or Greensboro? A 1 seed doesn't need another advantage like playing in an arena with 80 percent of the fans wearing its school colors. This year's tournament wouldn't have fallen out of balance if Kansas had to open in Dallas, or NC in Nashville, or Michigan State in Pittsburgh.

.Its about selling tickets. You want fair? You can't pay salaries with fairness. But yeah, only two of the last 13 or 14 tourneys haven't featured a first round site in NC or SC.

The crazy thing about the committee is that there are plenty of analytics out there where you could figure out the teams and the seedings and not even have an argument. Take a little RPI, a little Ken Pom, use the Quadrant thing to settle ties/determine seedings if you need to. The quadrant thing bugs me for a few reason. You are already counting SoS, so why reward a team for just being in a tougher conference, while penalizing a school that isn't? And the non-conference tournaments (neutral court) tend to be snooty affairs. Better tourneys, better teams. I understand mid-major fans don't travel, and if you want to make bank you have to play home games, and load up on those teams that will take a paycheck game, but don't cry when those schools don't help your SoS.

I could accept that if I hadn't covered a lot of opening round and second round games in the '90s before the pod system and they were banged out at places that aren't exactly college hoop hotbeds, like Uniondale, LI and Orlando.

To get rid of them as soon as possible. Virginia's style of play is bad for business.

Because the PAC 12 sucks and the committee didn't like St Mary's enough to put them in. There were very few western teams in the field at all.

Five years ago, things would have been different. At that time, the committee emphasized last or last 12 games. Specifically did away with that criterion in the name of body of work.

Where would they go? No football.

This isn't nuclear physics and it's certainly not as complicated as the NCAA makes it. Rank your teams 1-64 and put them in bracket the way they're supposed to be (1 vs. 64, 2 vs. 63, etc.). If you want to do some minor shuffling of the same seeding number in order to avoid conference matchups in the first round, OK, but let's be honest, the only person upset about a conference matchup in the first round is the league commissioner because one of his precious darlings has to go home after one game.

This is not a five-day process until you write 25 pages of special, mostly worthless conditions that no one cares about.
