Via a time machine sent from around 1949 has always been my guess.

May all the blowjobs be well done, and the steaks be medium rare.

According to VegasInsider.com, three teams -- in order, North Carolina, Gonzaga and Michigan -- are favored ahead of Xavier to win the West Regional.

Not sure why, but I really like this stat I heard on a local radio show.

Since Ken Pomeroy started doing his kenpom.com rankings in 2002, EVERY champion has been in BOTH the top 20 in defensive efficiency and the top 40 in offensive efficiency.

No champion has been outside those metrics.

So based on that 16-year sample, here are the only teams that can win it all this year:

    Virginia. #1 Defense, #21 Offense

    Michigan. #4 Defense, #29 Offense

    Tennessee. #5 Defense, #40 Offense

    Duke. #7 Defense, #3 Offense

    Michigan St. #9 in both

    Gonzaga. #15 Defense, #12 Offense

Ohio St. #17 Defense, #27 Offense

    Houston. #18 Defense, #31 Offense

Villanova is absent. Bad luck, but considering they are #1 on offense and just #22 on defense, they are within the margin of error.

Top 40? I think that's stretching the parameters a bit too much to make a theory work.

He's wrong. Purdue is winning it all.

Nice story, but it's not actually brain surgery to figure out a guy living in Pullman (a place I like, BTW) might be interested in moving to Charlottesville and coaching a program in a great league with about four times the resources he had at Wazzu.

Perhaps. But I enjoyed the process of how they reeled him into the promised land.

Yeah, interesting. Be glad they didn't hire Ritchie McKay. What a disaster that guy was in the two years I and my co-workers dealt with him.

To say that Jon Oliver is disliked among the UVA fan base would be an understatement. This article may help rehabilitate him a bit.

He got better, I think, after the humbling New Mexico experience. I dealt with him very early in his career at Portland State, too small of a sample size to make an impression. My dealings with him at UNM were prickly at best, which put me on edge when he came over to coach Liberty when I was on that beat. But he couldn't have been easier to work with -- in both of his LU stints.
