They way they dove twice to save that backcourt violation, I’m thinking it says more about UMBC.

With today's loss to Texas A&M, North Carolina is now 34-2 all-time in NCAA Tournament games played in North Carolina. Its only other loss was in Greensboro in 1979, in the second round against Penn.

When I saw that sequence, I thought that would have been the spark that would have carried them the rest of the way. But it wasn't.

The entire left side of my bracket is completely trashed.

What that tells me is that the committee needs really good knee pads. Thirty six tournament games in state.

My youngest just turned 4 and after the weekend she leads our family bracket challenge. She has the puppy dogs (Loyola-Chicago) beating the paw prints (Clemson) and I think if she gets the Clemson game it's over. I'm in second but only have four possible games to get right. Wife is third, oldest kid is last and FURIOUS even though she knows nothing about basketball.

Question on the FSU-Xavier game - had the refs properly T'd up FSU when its bench emptied with like 2.5 left (they let the clock run out), would Xavier had gotten two shots and the ball? I was wondering if something like that was reviewable and if the refs were gonna look at it and make the call with the teams in the locker room, then bring them out after the fact. Would have been wild.

Duke is 33-5 all-time in North Carolina, although eight of those games were played before 1979. Not sure how many of Carolina's games were pre-1979.
Two of those five Duke losses have come this decade, though (2012 vs. Lehigh in Greensboro and 2014 vs. Mercer in Raleigh).

Neither team was very good. UMBC was 29.8% from the floor and could have won it one well timed 3 pointer that would have tied it late. From there, the clubs could have traded failures until, for example, a late foul put UMBC on the line.

Shades of the 1972 Olympic gold medal game?

Raleigh. Reynolds Coliseum, I think. But, yeah, it's generally a committee-granted pass to the Sweet 16 in the name of ticket sales and making CBS happy. Didn't work out that way this year.

K-State was solid against Creighton, but I thought they were underwhelming today. I would predict that Kentucky will blow right by them in Atlanta, but a look at my brackets -- what's left of them -- says that's foolish.
