Quite the shitstorm on social media about Shaun White letting the flag touch the ground.

This is why we can't have nice things. I don't mind people flaming the guy (there is "another" story about him out there as well) it's a free country and they're being ridiculous but.. - it just really pains me when I see "social media" driving a news story. Shouldn't a reporter at least contact three or four of the tweeters and get actual quotes from them? Hell, I'd throw up if someone posted a news story quoting some of my more inane contributions to this board.

 

He was caught up in an incredibly emotional moment. He was bawling not long after that. And it’s a piece of fabric.

US men's hockey team blows 2-0 lead to lose in OT to Slovenia. They didn't look very good except for the goalie.

 

But U.S. was outshooting them 19-5 at one point.

 

That was a terrible loss. It's almost like Barry Trotz was coaching the U.S. by proxy. Turtle turtle turtle garbage.

 

It's live on the East Coast too... sort of. Last night, NBCSN was broadcasting pairs figure skating for several hours. Then the in-studio talking head said to switch to NBC for the rest of the competition.

That would've been totally OK, if it hadn't been a replay of skaters who had already been on NBCSN.

At this rate, I might wind up exclusively streaming... and I don't have the cool tech to do that anywhere but my phone or a clunky old MacBook.

I was with my friend's wife this weekend in Colorado - a damn good snowboarder herself - and she said she used to bar tend at a place White frequented. This is about 10 years ago. She said he was a complete creep. Conversation turned before I could get details, but apparently just way, way, way over the line.

I'd like to believe him that he's changed. He came off pretty well, I thought, at these Olympics.

 

The city of Boston media hadn't done something idiotic for at least 48 hours.
