    I don't give 2 squirts of rooster shit if he's hitting Top-Fiite X-Outs.

It's a wonder NBC didn't pick up something frowned upon by the FCC when he chili-dipped that chip out of the rough right into the greenside bunker.

Kinda worried that really let the air out of the balloon.

I said in the 2019 Masters thread about DeChambeau that whatever IT is, he has it.
He had that glazed over look in his eyes after struggling early.
Props to him for nutting up and finishing a round.

No way they're coming back here unless it's a Senior or Women's Open. And even then, they'll head south to the Broadmoor.

I'm sitting here watching it again.
It's just amazing to me the distance these guys are hitting the ball.
    10. 204 yards. DeChambeau hits 8 iron.
    17. 504 yards. Wolff hits gap wedge from 164.
    13. 227 yards. Schauffele hits 6 iron.
Some changes will have to be made to the golf ball.

Or make fairways 5 yards wide and the rest of the course 3-inch rough.

I love Wulff’s backstory, raised by a single mom in LA outside the country club scene.

Good Lord, no. We've seen what analytics have done to baseball. And watching the Peacock's replay now .... everything is so stat and exact-yardage-filled stuff.

DeChambeau is hitting driver on 90% of the par 4's with 4-6 inch rough.
They tried tightening the courses. Didn't work.
They tried lengthening the courses. Didn't work.
Next thing is to get into the equipment. Only thing they can do.

I hated seeing rangefinders on course BUT admittedly just got one and it helps to know exactly what the yardage is to the hole. It’s not like I can hit a shot within a couple of yards but it’s one less thing to worry about.

Jack Nicklaus has been saying the same thing for years.

Jack Nicklaus Surprises With His Comments on Long-Hitting Bryson DeChambeau - Sportscasting | Pure Sports

Given that his visible contribution to the game has been as a course designer and architect - not counting his ambassador role during the last 20 years - I would think he has some idea of what he's talking about.

He tried to introduce a ball that flew about half the distance - I think it was called a Cayman ball - to play on Cayman-specific courses. While we don't need a Cayman ball, someone needs to step in and work with the ball and with drivers and other equipment. We all understand that the DeChambeaus and Dustin Johnsons are going to driver-wedge plenty of holes. But they're consistently doing so on 450-yard par-4s and longer. Surely, there's a way to slow this down that's not Draconian. Moderation is the key ... we don't need to make it so half the PGA Tour has to hit driver-fairway wood to reach long par-4s or driver-fairway wood-mid-iron to reach long par-5s.

But a lot of munis don't have any more room to install another back tee. Country clubs are out of acreage. Drivers and balls are allowing more and more people to simply overwhelm what are supposedly considered long courses. All lengthening the courses more and making the rough at the B.C. Open and the Bob Hope Classic like what you see at the U.S. Open simply shrinks the number of realistic contenders at any given tournament.

So ... will the USGA, the R&A and the equipment manufacturers play ball? The latter will need to see something to make it financially worthwhile or they won't bother.

Chambers Bay has the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball next year, which is sometimes a precursor to a course hosting the U.S. Amateur. (See Dunes, Bandon). I doubt they bring the Open back there but the USGA still fucks with Chambers Bay, it seems.
