Before my surgery, I took my TaylorMade rac OS irons and Burner rescue woods into the pro shop to have the grips replaced. Club pro teased me saying, "we don't deal in antiques here." I had just shot 80 with them that morning.

Ninety percent of hackers spend most of their money buying equipment instead of trying to fix the problem that's located in the four inches between their ears.

I'm using a hand me down Callaway driver and Big Bertha irons from 1994. I use my Dad's mallet putter from about 1958. Shooting in the low 90s for the first time in decades.

I was using the steel shafted Lynx Boom Boom 5-wood I got with my original set in 1996 as recently as four years ago when I found a Nike victory red hybrid at Dunham’s on clearance.

I have a TaylorMade driver and 3-wood and Callaway irons that're three years old. Christmas present complete with fitting from my loving family. But the other two clubs in my bag are a persimmon Hogan 4-wood (only for use on par-threes in the 160-170 range) and my Wilson 8802 putter. Had those since the early '70s.
PS: When I'm at the range and take out that Hogan, I get looks. Many looks.

My irons are Wilson Blue Ridge Sam Snead autograph, bought in 1973. The set came with 1, 3, 4, 5 persimmon woods. They are stashed away in the garage. I have a pretty new Tommy Armour driver and a Ping hybrid.

I got the irons re-gripped about 3 years ago. The guy said he had a lot of trouble taking off the old grips. I said, no wonder, they've been on there for more than 45 years. I could never hit a solid 2- or 3-iron, so I don't have them in the bag anymore.

My wedge wasn't part of the set. I bought it out of a barrel in a Big 5, also in the '70s. If finally got so rusty that WD-40 stopped working. I've never had a sand wedge. I finally bought a new 48-degree pitching wedge and a 54-degree lob wedge, which I've never used before. I like it. Big test in a tournament on Monday in Rancho Santa Fe.

Bought my first "real" set of matching clubs at Big 5 in 1982! I think I got three woods and seven irons of their off the rack Wilsons for $99. I played with those until I bought the TaylorMades from Golfsmith here in Atlanta in 2003 for something around $499 for the irons and $399 for the metals. I did add a set of 52/56/60 degree wedges two years ago and a Ping Zing putter a while back.

If it works, why change it? If it doesn't work, it's not the fault of the club. Plus, if somebody wants to break into my car to steal those, they've gone to way too much trouble.

Still have my Hogan wood driver, circa 1984 and like new, because I couldn't hit it (used a Lawson Little 3 wood instead). Took it to the range this summer and hit it well with my new single-plane swing. I don't miss that tiny sweet spot at all.

I just sold my clubs, a set of older Ping Eye 2s, on eBay for about what I paid when I bought them on there a few years ago. I'm now thinking about getting something else interesting or classic but I haven't figured out what yet. I don't play enough to spend the big $$$ on something I know I'd love, like some Mizunos, but I quite enjoy playing for a while with clubs that I really wanted 15-20 years ago.
