Summer of 1998 I was playing Robbers Roost in North Myrtle Beach when I hit a tee shot left of left of left, which cracked off of the house —loudly . Trudging around in the rough looking for this shitty Maxfli X-out when the guy from Nashville who sounded like Boomhauer they paired me with yelled out from the fairway “eyyy man you playin’ a Maxfli?” Apparently the ball cracked off of severely pitched roof and landed in the fairway.

Course I play on on Cape Cod has a first fairway downhill that slants left to right and a road down the right side that's out of bounds. One of the guys in my senior league there lives at the end of the road. He has like 2000 golf balls in his garage. You don't even have to miss badly to wind up on his property due to the law of gravity. And yes, he takes special pleasure in handing me one of mine (and anyone else in the league) when he finds it.

We play at Aliso Creek in Laguna Beach, (aka Ben Brown or The Ranch). It's a short nine-hole course. No. 1 is 300/288/242. Aliso Creek comes into play on almost every hole. On No. 1, it cuts right across the fairway at about 240 yards. There had never been any restrictions. Last time we played there, the starter came to the tee and told us that laying up is a requirement, you're not allowed to try to drive the hole. Why? Well, the house on the right had its sliding glass door shattered twice on one week recently. First time that had ever happened.
On No. 9 one time, my approach moved left. I was hoping it would hit the sidehill and bounce on the green. But it kept going and, dammit, kangaroo bounce. It landed on the patio outside the restaurant. One of the busboys grabbed it and threw it onto the green. Thank you!!

See legally, on golf courses the rule is that golfers are only responsible for NEGLIGENT acts, "was the shot a reasonable attempt?" So that's why golf courses have nets; the golf course, NOT the player, is almost always responsible for stray balls because that's what the golf course is intending, for you to hit a ball.

Martha Burk got this wrong in 2003 and this group is wrong again.

Civil rights group calls for PGA Tour, Masters to pull event from Augusta National in protest of Georgia's new voting law

    1. The PGA Tour has zip, zero, nada to do with the running, operations or player eligibility for the Masters. All they do is count the victory, money, points and scores/stats for players' records. They cannot dictate anything. I'm surprised golfweek let that story run without pointing this out.

    2. The Tour also can't force their players to boycott the tournament. For crying out loud, the PGA Tour allows its players to compete in European Tour events in Middle Eastern countries that criminalize homosexuality and adultery. As bad as Georgia's voting bill is (and it's appalling), it doesn't sink to that level.

    3. The only thing the Tour has done is not play its events at private courses with discriminatory practices.

The Georgia GOP should be ashamed it itself but shame is in short supply in this party. But the Masters ain't going anywhere, except at Augusta National beginning a week from Thursday.

Yes, let's move the Masters to Kapalua. Do your homework.

Golf Channel just did a play-through commercial break with Jordan Spieth on the tee. You can guess ...

Spieth shoots final-round 66, wins by two. First since 2016 British Open, 82 events ago. Good on him, one of my favorites.

Charley Hoffman made him work for it down the stretch, too. Lots of moments where Spieth could've cracked but he always responded.

He's been knocking on the door all winter and early spring. Great win for him.
