Those balls are great for dormant bermuda in the fall/winter, where it can be really hard to find a regular white ball.

I am a big proponent of Costco. The Callaway balls they sell are just about the same price as the Kirkland.
I don't judge people, unless, like JC, they are using Srixon X-outs. :D

The Asians I see driving at the range have the best equipment, best coaching, best swings and they are in the best physical condition. They are the best and most consistent players there. I salute them.

I’ve been using matte neon green Titlest Velocity I bought off Amazon for $24 this season in our league on a links style course.

Haven’t lost any in the fescue. The water on the other hand …

When Volvik made the jade color I loved them but wasn’t paying $42 for a dozen balls, but when that color was discontinued and those went on clearance I bought six dozen.

I liked the look of the jade balls but they are hard to follow in the air and don't stand out in grass as well as pink/yellow or even white.

On a side note, was playing yesterday with my buddy; he bombs it a lot longer than I do, he can bomb it close to 300 off the tee with rollout sometimes, probably 250-260 carry, I'm can get out there 210 carry if I'm lucky; he's probably 2-3 clubs longer than me (PW for him, 8I for me).

So I was talking to him and saying I get in trouble when I start to think about hitting it longer or harder, I get out of sync; I told him "you never have to deal with that, you're so long, right?" And he said NO, that he has exactly the same thoughts and then gets in trouble too. I was shocked. I thought if I was hitting it that far, I'd never get out of sync, never be thinking about it. I guess everyone falls into that trap chasing distance. I guess that makes me feel a little better.

Years ago I worked at the former Fairchild when it was run by Michael Coady, the same Michael Coady profiled as a mercurial, mean, boozing Manhattan reprobate by Spy magazine. Actually swung from a chandelier at the New York Athletic Club, given to marching through the newsroom, trailed by a custodian, angrily shoving everyone's piles of papers off the file cabinets. I went in there one day with some visiting little kids. We were crossing the newsroom when who do we bump into but "Mr Coady". He sized us up and says, "Follow me." We all trooped in a line to his office, where he rummaged in a closet. He turns around with a couple of packs of balls monogrammed for W magazine, hands them to the kids and says, "Now, don't let your daddy lose these."

Volviks are also surprisingly hard coated, making it feel like you’re putting a rock.

How many people have bought cavity-backed irons - or goodness know what else that the manufacturers claim will do wonders for your game - and not realize that the pros still play with blades? And steel shafts? And shoes that are no longer nails or soft spikes?

I'm not saying that equipment hasn't improved – it has ... immensely – but people will plunk down if they're convinced this drivers will get them five more yards or these irons or the triple-digit putter will gain them one more stroke next week?

It never stopped, and it never will.

A lot of them do. The ones with equipment deals are even more limited. Without doubt, some of them are offered more lucrative deals with companies whose equipment doesn't impress them at all.

Pros play with blades because they can hit the sweet spot 99.9 percent of the time. Even a good golfer shouldn’t being playing with blades.
