It surprises me that we treat Sparty as a blue blood equal to Duke or Kansas. I realize college basketball reveres the national semifinals to a degree unseen in any sport but Izzo’s reign is basically the Manning-era Colts.

    Fucking Trojans.

And yeah, Izzo gets to 82 Final Fours but has just 1 ring to show for it all.

Thank God. Another miss and KSU would have been eligible for federal relief aid.

Who's the writer with the 'stache and what's he doing these days?

To be on the cover of SI when SI was the king of sports ... he must've got his hands on a few dozen copies.

For everything Izzo has done, he has been building upon a foundation laid by Jud Heathcote, who should be in the Hall of Fane
When I was a student in the 70s Gus Ganakas was the coach and games were an afterthought
The Spartans were usually a 500 team, Jenison Fieldhouse was half full and guy like Gary Ganakas, the 5-5 coach’s son, and Brian Breslin, the football playing son of the MSU trustee who the current arena is named after, were starters
But when Magic stayed home and won a national title that changed things
Jud took a chance on Scott Skiles, then got Steve Smith and Shawn Respert
State reached its current status with three straight Final Fours
Maybe it isn’t Duke or North Carolina but it stands with Indiana atop the Big Ten
We’ll see what happens when Izzo leaves but as long as he’s there that won’t change
He also has his best recruiting class coming in since Cassius Winston and Miles Bridges

It’s interesting and impressive that Michigan State has been appreciably better than Michigan. You don’t see that everywhere. Certainly not in NC or FL or KS or several other states with flagship-land Grant rivalries. Purdue > Indiana since Knight got fired, but still no Final Fours in that time for the Boilers.
