This is going to be a lengthy rebuild ,that's for sure.

Surprise surprise. Game ended 1-1. Bruins won with the only goal in a shootout in the fourth round.

I wonder if Kassian had second thoughts once it became apparent how eager this kid was. He raced after him.

I like the twitter comment that contrary to what Tyson Nash said, bombs were not “exchanged”.

Watched Caps-Canes last night, and it appears the juice was totally worth the squeeze when it came to Darcy Kuemper. He stole a point a short-handed Caps team had no business earning. The upgrade in goal this year has been significant and will probably help them hang around the cut line while everyone gets healthy. Already a crap ton of injuries. Aside, I may be ready to eat my crow on Connor McMichael. He does not appear ready for the moment, given a significant opportunity with this injury wave.

Torts in NY beheind the Flyers bench tonight. I'm kind of looking forward to it.

It's clever, though some have said it's xenophobic to make fun of someone with an unusual name. I guess it's OK with me if it's OK with him.

The Habs are in Minnesota tonight, which reminds me that one of my favorite things to do every once in a while during the season is to find an RDS Habs broadcast in French and enjoy how names like that blow up the broadcaster's string of florid French. Unfortunately, not only would I be blacked out of that, ESPN+ does not offer French broadcasts.

The Penguins may be regretting their decision to keep the core together for one more season. They started fast, but they lost their fifth in a row tonight, blowing a 5-2 lead to the Bruins before losing it in overtime. Ugly stuff.

Regretting it is one thing. Now will they actually do something about it? They have been hellbent - perhaps overly so - to keep Sid, Geno, Letang and Co. together. At some point, it might actually be to their detriment.

But they've also responded with surges after bad games and/or bad stretches before. Wouldn't dismiss that yet.

Yeah ... wasn't expecting Kuemper to do that. Stood on his head in Raleigh. Impressive.

The alternative was a rebuild, but they have arguably the worst prospect pool in the NHL. They traded away a lot of first round picks. I understood putting the band back together for one last tour with them. They figured Sid, Geno, Letang are not completely done, and Guentzel is in his prime, and there are still some other players there like Bryan Rust. I figured they'd be a more competitive version of the Caps this season, a 50/50 playoff team, but probably not enough there to get far. I look at them, Boston and Washington as similar teams, they had their runs, but it is coming to an end. There are some long-in-the-tooth teams in the east without the best prospect pools. You can add the Islanders and Philly to that list.

I watched Philly in NY last night, it was a fun game. The Rangers couldn't buy a goal, in the second period they were doing whatever they wanted but nothing would go in, they hit 5 or 6 posts and Carter Hart was stopping everything else. The Rangers won it in OT. Philly is a paper tiger. Torts has them scrapping and challenging pucks -- Travis Konecny is a little rat -- but I don't think Carter Hart can keep up what he has done so far for a whole season and there isn't nearly enough scoring on that team for them to be competitive against the better teams. I think they will fade.
