Saw a stat yesterday showing one of the leaders' season-long driving distance. It was 306 yards, good enough for 43rd place on the Tour. Not all of those guys have muscles like DeChambeau and Koepka, either. Mother Nature is taking its course on hacker me now that I've hit 70, but I was longer in my 60s than in my 50s and that's just not natural. It's like baseball in the late '90s, except it's the equipment that's doing the most juicing. Courses like Riviera and Pebble have little defense against that kind of length except high winds or to let the USGA set them up Open-style.

In the case of Kapalua and Riviera, didn't seem like there were any windy days. There's almost no way to keep scores from going super low if there's no wind. Could always have tighter fairways and higher rough, but the Tour's going to err on the side of birdies as to not make players look bad.

I thought Scottsdale played firm and fair and have hopes Sawgrass can replicate that. As noted, Riv didn't have many defenses this week. With no wind, you can drive 10 without a ton of fear, and 17 becomes even more gettable. Next week is going to suck. No top 10 players in the field, shit course. Bay Hill isn't what it used to be but it should have a good field as a Players warmup. I only care about the Valspar because I've played the Copperhead Course.

When I lived in St. Pete 20 years ago, there was a summer discount golf card that included $40 rounds on the Copperhead Course. Even in the heat, that was a steal.

Remember this weekend's Honda Classic drinking game, take a swig every time you hear BEAR TRAP. You'll be passed out 'til the Masters.

Going from a loaded field that had the Top 11 in the field to only 12 of the top 50 at Honda is kind of a drag.
Oh, and NBC has everything in Florida plus the Match Play, so we have Hicks to enjoy. #bluefont

When I read "Bear trap" I hear it in Hicks' voice

Yup, NBC until Augusta, then CBS from mid-April until mid-August minus the two majors in there.

I did see that the eye does have the Scottish Open which is interesting.
