I love reporting. Nobody's a bigger proponent of "advancing the story" than I, no matter if it's a column, poem, novel or takeout. But here's an example of advancing the story through insight and wisdom and keen observation, not discovered facts. Von Drehle crystallizes a lot about Tiger and his career here and sums it up beautifully. One of the best things ever written about the man/phenomenon:

Do what I do: Choose a course, play it. Presto --instant lousy course!

And his old Okie State teammate Morgan Hoffmann is playing for the first time in three years, and shot even. It's just one day, but golf is a funny game.

Ugh. Inches away today from my first birdie in a long freaking time. 15-foot downhill slider that I thought was going to break just a touch right but ended up dead straight. As a 30, I never turn down pars, but I also don't get many legit birdie putts, so that kind of stunk. On the plus side, I was really freaking good at lag putting today. No three putts.

42 on the front nine, 52 on the back. Not a happy finish with 6-7.

Spieth is 5 under through eight -- with two eagles -- and now shares the lead with Erik van Rooyen.

And has had so many birdie putts run by since, although if he can get in the clubhouse at -13, there's a chance.

And that was a hell of a bunker shot.

Spieth wins and I missed it. It'll be like waiting for Haley's Comet the next time.

Spieth won on Easter Sunday last year, and on Easter Sunday this year. And, as Jim Nantz pointed out more than once, next year on Easter Sunday is… the Masters.
