Yes, and that's happened before because Phoenix prefers a Super Sunday finish. It will happen again in 2024, 2028 and 2032.

It just doesn't seem like the California events get the fields or attention they used to.

Pretty good field in San Diego this week. Pebble has no notable names to speak of, which is not shocking.
Pro-Ams are brutal. Riviera will be loaded. Phoenix should still have a good field.

If you think a Pebble field with Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, Will Zalatoris, Justin Rose, Jason Day, Kevin Kisner, Cameron Champ and Matthew Fitzpatrick has "no notable names to speak of," I can't help you.

"Honey, load up the kids in the Odyssey, Kisner, Champ, Fitzpatrick and Zalatoris are teeing off at 10:05!"

Don’t misunderstand me. I dig Kisner. Zalatoris will win this year, and Champ hits it a ton.
Cantlay has all the charisma and enthusiasm as one those seals CBS will show basking on the rocks 4000 times next weekend.

Half of those are only notable names to golf nerds. But Pebble is Pebble, gotta watch it for the views. The Saturday heavy-amateur broadcast has become an increasingly tough watch over the years as the household-name celebrities have dwindled.

At the U.S. Open in 2005 at Pinehurst No. 2, I spent the week covering Luke List's experience as a series. He was 21, had finished as the runner-up at the U.S. Am and made the cut at The Masters as an amateur, and played collegiately for a coach who was originally from our area. That was my local angle, and I won first place for sportswriting in the N.C. Press Association for our (small) division for the series.

It's been a long and winding road for Luke since (and for me, too), but happy to see him win for the first time on the PGA Tour.

I love golf as much as the next person. If you think for a half second that I want to watch Faldo analyze Larry the Cable Guy’s 8 piece golf swing on Saturday……let’s just say there’s college basketball on.
I get why the Tour has this, but is brutal to watch.

List reminds me of a young Ernie Els…..,not in the swing itself……but it’s so easy and rhythmic and it goes forever.
I remember following Els for a day back in 99……the ball just kept going, you just kept waiting for it to come down.
