I guess Tiger or Rory or Jordan can't say they had an abortion of a round at Southern Hills.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early to say this, and all I'm doing is setting myself up for disappointment, but...

    C'mon, Rory.

Tiger limping around and about 20 mph behind Rory off the tee. No crime, since Rory's having an historic day with the driver.

Hoping Gooch can make a run up the leaderboard, for the headline potential alone.

Unless he mucks up the last two holes, Tiger will be playing the weekend.

I know there's a lot of Woods/Mays contrasts, but I think the better comparison is Mickey Mantle, both on and off the field. I saw Mantle play in person the year before he retired, and while he was at the end of his career, he still launched a massive homer at Tiger Stadium, making me wish I had seen him when he was at his peak.

Tiger looks all of his 45 years right now, and it's both impressive and sad to see him battle to just make cuts at majors, playing with the Shaun Norrises of the world but still drawing crowds and media attention as if he were in the final grouping. He was the greatest golfer in the history of the sport and no one can take that away, but time remains undefeated, even for Tiger Woods.

He hurt himself trying to be better than anybody else, then hurt himself making stupid life decisions. And even with his back, knees and legs in constant agony, he's still better than all than a few dozen of the best players on the planet.

I am reminded of the famous John Updike essay about Ted Williams not acknowledging the fans after his last home run: "Immortality is untransferrable. .... Gods don't answer letters."

And gods don't answer eviction notices, either.
