I'm in the PGA Tour's corner on this spat, but this is a little like Henry Ford saying, "You can buy one of my cars in any color as long as it's black." (The PGA Tour essentially says its members can play anywhere as long as it's one of our events.)

I meant they can play whatever Tour tourney they want.

But ask yourself, would you want your product being sold somewhere else? There has to be some exclusivity otherwise your product is diluted and no longer unique.

Monahan already is straddling the fence with his "suspensions." He's not going anywhere near the word "ban" and he didn't specify any kind of time frame.

If it’s not already in the membersgt rules, they had some crappy lawyers.

Your basic McDs franchise agreement would have the suspension/termination of membership already spelled out.

Golf Channel "live at the Open" just had an interview with Charles Barkley. This is a paraphrase, but he pretty much said "Phil's a great friend of mine (that is verbatim). I'm a compulsive gambler too, so I know where he's coming from." To the horror of the Golf Channel group, Barkley's take was it's all business. You can't get mad at people for making a good business deal.

They can play anywhere as long as they get a release. The Tour is granting releases anywhere except LIV Golf.

I spent more time than I'd like to admit watching Golf Channel live from Brookline today. I am not surprised they are taking the Tour's side in this affair, business is business after all. What surprises me is the palpable fear. The unspoken but obvious assumption is that the Saudis can buy any fucking golfer if they put their minds and wallets to it. I'm not sure that's true, because golf is a very small-c (and large-C, but that's another story) conservative community, but it was startling that was their baseline thought.

Everyone has a price. Except Rory. He became the face of the Tour this past week. And his dig at Norman -- chef's kiss. He's not jumping.

The thing is, LIV isn't going anywhere. They have unlimited funds. It's going to be a hit-and-giggle exhibition with limited events, limited players and no major TV outlets/streaming. And there are no OWGR points being awarded.

Just say what Bam Bam said today: I did it for the money. Business is business. If you can live with yourself, OK, fine. But just admit it's all about the Benjamins, not this other bullshit of "growing the game" and other talking points. You took the blood money. Fine.

But don't be mad because people are pissed off at you for taking the blood money.

Anyone else reading Shipnuck’s book? Finally got a break from my own work to grind out a few chapters.

Chamblee is absolutely roasting Phil and LIV Tour. For good reason.
