I'm not just glad; I'm shocked.

Mulkey immediately asks the UCLA staff in the handshake line, "What did she (Reese) say?":D

I usually don't like assholes, but I like Reese.

Man, UCLA just collapsed. Not sure how smart it was to keep driving and getting rejected. No one ever accused Cori Close of being a strategist, though, great talent, not great results.

Nothing for her klan to get riled up about. It didn't mention her live-in female friend, as the Ross Dellenger SI story of a few years back did.

That’s the kind of quote you learn to give if you don’t like gay people but are trying to be polite about it and move past the subject. I think that Mulkey is genuinely trying to be magnanimous there and just happens to be terrible at it.

And maybe if you are supervising grocery cashiers or are a construction foreman then “Whoever you are. I don’t care to know that,” is a defensible fallback. But it just feels profoundly sad to me that a coach doesn’t want to know the essence of who her players are. What is coaching if not a people business?

If — and this is a HUGE if — the Hawkeyes advance to face LSU on Monday, I foresee another blowout win for the Tigers. Iowa has a softer inside game this year than last season. LSU will destroy Iowa in the paint.

And now she's on about some LA Times game preview being sexist.

I read the Babb article. I think the best thing I saw about it was "This is a pretty good profile that does well explaining why Kim Mulkey would treat it like a hit piece." That said, Dan Wolken wrote about Kim Mulkey a year or two ago, and at least half of the points made here (estranged from family members, hates disloyalty, walked away from LA Tech and Baylor) were made there.

The most novel content I observed was how close a colleague she was with Pat Summitt. The circumstances of her death were terrible, but I do find myself wondering if Pat would have engendered the same goodwill had she remained healthy. I don't know. Kind of seems like she was similarly uninterested in suffering fools but maybe not as mean bout it? Not sure. She would have been 71 right now, and I think there's a decent chance she'd still be at it.
