Someone should have thrown some debris out on the track with 10 laps to go in his season.

I meant from the bitching and moaning end. I think Dodge eventually got a couple concessions during the season (air dam-related stuff, maybe?), but that was a long time ago and I can’t remember what I had for lunch.

IndyCar team changes car's number to avoid "reprehensible associations" · RaceFans

Admirable to recognize the problem and do something about it. The Facebook replies to the article are predictably trash.

(Since they go out of their way to avoid it, having a 14 and an 88 side by side is a problem because 88 is often a code for "Heil Hitler" (H being the eighth letter of the alphabet) and 14 a reference to the "14 Words," which is something of a white supremacist mission statement.)

That completely explains Coo Coo Marlin (14) and Darrell Waltrip (88). (/sarcasm)

I saw that today and wondered what the hell it was about, since Foyt made the announcement and the car looked perfectly fine. Society is seriously unhinged when everything means something else and everybody's aggrieved.

Just use "19/84" for the team. George Orwell would have a fit if he knew his fiction was becoming historical fact.

It may be dumb, but those numbers absolutely are used that way by that crowd, same as 420 is by marijuana users.

It's just like flags or anything else:
Should people who use something for honest purposes have to abandon it because assholes have perverted the meaning?
If we go down that rabbit hole, most 1%er MCs use numbers to symbolize their clubs. I guess people should abandon 81 (Hell's Angels) and 22 (Vagos).

On a funny note along these lines:
I have a friend whose given name is Adolph. He was born long after his parents should have known not to name their son Adolph.
Needless to say, he doesn't go by his birth name.
I always give him crap and say I hope his family was a fan of Adolph Coors or Adolphus Busch and not Hitler.

At the same time, NASCAR also pulled the plug on stage racing at road courses (they still exist, but will be awarded without throwing a caution) (except at Buschwide and Trucks standalone events), revised the penalty for a lost wheel in the pits, and (most interestingly) expanded the number of tracks at which rain tires and equipment can be used. They're now available at the LA Memorial Coliseum, Martinsville, New Hampshire, North Wilkesboro for All-Star weekend, Phoenix, Richmond, Milwaukee and Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Because Ross Chastain's move was only the most talked-about thing around NASCAR that didn't involve a scary wreck in... years.

"Oh, but the crossover gate could open!" "Oh, but the wall could be knocked down!" "Think about the children!" The hysterics that followed on some corners of the Internet were quite amusing. If it's illegal now, it should've been illegal in November.
