Jordan Spieth had a top-20 finish in the Byron Nelson at the age of 16.

The PGA Tour's website is tracking his every move this morning. I guess Ponte Vedra figures they didn't get a full fill of Tiger last week so they're sure gonna get everything out of Charlie.

Also, they report he's wearing a Sun Day Red glove but also a Titleist hat. C'mon people, can we get some brand consistency here?

He's shown up on my Facebook feed multiple times already. And I don't even follow the PGA Tour on FB.

Gary McCord will let him pick up the ball on the front 9 ā€” but only on the front 9.

Charlie took a 12 on a par-4 today, so we can all just kind of move on, I guess.

Yeah, pgatour.com stopped doing live Charlie updates right around that point. Go figure.

Hate this new trend of media being interested in the kids of best golfers in history and putting undue pressure on them.

In other news, been thinking about LIV. And been thinking about why I think about it so little. The more big names they sign, the less interested I become in it. And I had zero interest to start, for reasons I've mentioned here as have others: the 54 holes, shotgun start, exhibition feel to it, wearing shorts like Gary Nicklaus, etc. But Cam Smith goes over and I care even less. Rahm...same thing. At least with little old me LIV is getting zero bang for their buck when it comes to bringing in big names and bringing in new eyeballs.

At the same time, I keep watching the weekly PGA Tour events but there's no doubt they are a lot less fun or compelling without Bryson, DJ, Koepka, Smith, Rahm, etc. I know a lot of folks compared it to the Indy split and it does seem to be really similar. And I keep thinking of it in terms of other sports. If Luka, LeBron, LeBron, Giannis, Taytum all went to the Big3 I would continue to watch zero minutes of the Big3. But it would also hurt the NBA tremendously. Or if Burrow, Allen, Rodgers joined a 7-on-7 passing league. I would watch zero seconds of that league but it would also hurt the NFL tremendously.

No great insight here, other than saying whole thing is just bleak.

Sheesh, a woman wearing those shorts might not be allowed to play at nicer clubs, never mind a guy.

The comparison to the Indy split is very apropos, though it ultimately crippled both series financially. A financial collapse in golf doesn't seem likely right now but I don't think there's any question the interest level has dropped in a relatively short time. Is there any chance the Masters in 30 years could be what the Indy 500 is now, a very well-attended regional event that has little relevance nationally? Nothing seems impossible now.

The Masters has the luxury of being an invitational, so the committee can freely reward players regardless of OWGR with special invites and such. It's also one of the few places where everyone (who matters at least) will still compete. The green jackets aren't losing sleep over Talor Gooch not being at Augusta.

The enlightened bunch of tweeters who are spending their afternoon scolding people ahead of time for "picking" on Charlie Woods? They can fuck right off.

I get that it's a story, it's Tiger's kid, etc. Not saying it's wrong to cover. But I feel the same way with the coverage of Michelle Wie at 13, 14, or whatever age when she was playing some PGA Tour events....I just kinda don't like it.
