If I've learned anything working in golf it's just how narrow the margins are. My place hosts a big amateur tourney every summer. I've covered it for 12 years in being here, and in every edition, there's been a future Tour pro in the field.

Only one of them has actually won in my time here.

Pendrith played it twice. Never made the cut. Bryson lost in the Round of 16. Cameron Champ lost in the Round of 32. Corey Conners was a runner-up.

    That's how hard golf is.

Already seeing it with signature events. Wells Fargo is out of Charlotte after next week.

Just saw the replay on Golf Channel. Ugh. Poor guy. His fourth shot was pretty damn good with that stance.

The Nelson and Colonial used to be consecutive weeks not too many years back. Allowed those staying in the Metroplex to stay put for a while.

I think Houston, for a while, was the last stop prior to Augusta.

Houston, then the Metroplex tournaments, then San Antonio would make a lot of sense. But I'm guessing the Tour has some sort of $$$$ reason(s).

Also, the Nelson used to have a much, much better field. It's almost as if now that Byron Nelson is gone, the Tour is treating it like the B.C. Open and/or a hit-and-giggle.

The week before a "Signature" event, then the PGA? Yeah ... you're begging a lot of "name" players to simply skip this one in preparation. Not hand-wringing, Hondo ... I agree that it gives some players who aren't as prominent or who are just getting their professional feet wet a chance. It's a field of 70 or 156 ... not just the two or three players whose names are known by everyone.

Maybe. But they're not going to LIV.

I thought of that too re: Byron himself. Who's to say Arnold Palmer won't get the same treatment down the road? If Mastercard ever decides to bail on the API and there isn't another company waiting in the wings, we'd find out how much the Tour cherishes Arnie's memory.

I tried for a solid half hour to watch the LIV event this weekend and couldn't. The scoreboard on the left hand side is a busy, distracting nightmare. Ended up watching Rick Steves tour Paris instead.

Bones and Maltbie to be on-course for NBC at Pinehurst. Chamblee and Faxon as lead analysts. Koch also in the booth. Unfortunately, Hicks is still there.

They are rotating Hicks/Chamblee and Tirico/Faxon on odd/even holes in the main broadcast windows. Just really weird, like they don't think one analyst can carry the load? I'll give NBC credit for bringing back Maltbie and Koch for the full week, but the entire plan seems way overthought. But it's NBC/Comcast and what's important is nobody new on the payroll.

I still am considering attending their "Nashville" event just to see the circus up close. Maybe.
