How is $3 billion from the US group going to do anything against the PIF money? That's a drop in the oil bucket.

LIV is doing for my interest in the PGA what conference realignment has done for my passion for college sports.

You put into words exactly what I have tried to articulate. Excellent analogy.

I used to be a pretty good golf fan. Everything about this has turned me off, not just the LIV stuff. The guys generally seem like greedy assholes. When the LIV stuff was just bubbling, I remember Mickelson bitching about he should be making $60 million a year, not just $30 million a year. I had to step back and just say to myself, what am I doing following this stuff?

I signed up to be a volunteer at the US Open in LA last summer. Before I finished the online application. They wanted $350 from me for shirts/jackets for the privilege of me volunteering. I stopped my application.

My wife wanted tickets to go to Riviera for christmas. We are going in February. I wish I wasn't.

It's really turned into the majors and nothing else now. It's the only time we see all the top players in one place. It was trending that way for a long time, but it's really been cemented now.

It may not even be a Majors thing for me; it might be a Masters thing for me. Last year's U.S. Open was incredibly boring at with limited fans and the PGA moving to May has just added one more thing to keep track of during the NBA playoffs, MLB and Stanley Cup at a time of the year when we in the northeast are finally getting nice weather and don't want to be indoors. I'm also at a point in my life where these things -- both college football and golf -- are not the center of my universe. When I was single and in my 20s and 30s I'd schedule my life around the Majors and college football Saturdays. Now? Married, Working a day job and freelancing on the side? IDGAF.

"Volunteering" is one of the most amazing rackets in golf. It's not just majors, run-of-the-mill Tour events also charge a couple hundo for the "volunteer package" which may include some food and maybe a round at the course later. But more than likely you're just getting a few box lunches in exchange for 4-6 days of very long shifts. And you paid the sponsor to wear their logo for the rest of the year.

With this $3 billion cash influx, the Tour needs to start giving back to fans and fast. No more volunteer scams. Free admission days. Mandatory autograph sessions for players. The silly money is everywhere now, can't single out LIV anymore.

One of our clubs is hosting the U.S. Mid-Am this year, and the volunteer package is $50 I think. Gets you a Peter Millar logo shirt and hat, meals, and a chance to play Kinloch afterward, which is the big appeal because that's one of the most exclusive tracks in the state. Hell, I've only even played it once, and that was before I started working for the association.

That's reasonable and sensible for a Mid-Am. The Tour makes you dig deeper for the right to hold a rope so Grayson Murray can walk by.

Then factor in the fact that the shirt you're paying for was more than likely donated by Nike/Adidas/Cutter and Buck as some sort of sponsorship deal. I remember it was $50 to volunteer at Oakmont in 2006, which seemed reasonable at the time. But $350? That's damn near my hotel bill for Vegas next month.

That's a really good deal considering you can't get a Perer Millar on clearance for that price.

Netflix show “Full Swing” returns for a second season March 6. Really enjoyed the first one.
