How is Arena moving from head coach of the MNT to youth development a "promotion" within US Soccer?

USSF needs to throw whatever money/incentives to get Klinsmann. His enthusiasm is genuine and I loved watching him on the sidelines. I would take him in a heartbeat.

Simple. It gets the AYSO Mafia out of positions of power in the USSF and puts someone who actually has some vision of the big picture in charge.

If it comes to pass, though, Klinsy had better produce since he'll be making three times what The Bruce is making right now. They'll have to bring back the yearly US-Mexico friendly in the Rose Bowl just to cover the added cost.

Arena really is stuck -- he has ripped MLS so much, the league won't look to bring him in.  And the offers from Europe haven't materialized.

If Arena had followed 2002 with another success, he probably could have gotten a lower-level EPL job.
    As it turned out ...

Three MLS Cup titles, two Gold Cups, an Intercontinental Cup and the best American World Cup performance in the modern era. All that is negated by one ill-advised, but nontheless correct, incident of truth-telling?

The MetroBull job is there for the taking, the league and the USSF need people with his experience and straight-talking ability -- I'd say he's far from stuck. If nothing else, there have to be at least a few CONACAlaugh countries that would give Bruce a serious look (if they could meet his price).

I don't see him coaching another national team.

I agree that every team in MLS would be lucky to have him, but I think that TPTB in the league hate him after his comments a couple of years back. RBNY is a real possibility, but they are so screwed up right now that he won't touch them.

Is there enough money in MLS to make it worth his while? He was darned close to 7 figures with the NATs. Nobody in MLS is paying that kind of jack.

Why not? He knows CONCAlaugh as well as anyone else in these parts. You think Jamaica wouldn't take a flyer on bringing him in?

TPTB may not like Arena, but that doesn't change the veracity of his statements. MLS needs Arena or someone like him at/near the top if it has any designs on fulfilling its potential as a league.

The MetroBulls are messed up, yes, but they have young talent, owners willing to spend and the team is in Bruce's back yard. Who better to make New York into a contender than a Long Island boy?

Reports from the Guardian had Arena making in the neighborhood of 600K pounds, which is why the MetroBulls would be the most likely option. New owners, money to spend and looking for a big-name guy to turn the team around.

I just don't see him going through the agita of dealing with another federation, which will likely be more fickle.

RBNY is so beyond directionless right now, it isn't even funny. I just don't think that he'll jump in to that mess now. Maybe a different story after this season is done.

I didn't realize there was an AYSO Mafia... AYSO doesn't have the numbers or the clout to have that kind of power in the federation. Now if I recall correctly, US Youth Soccer actually sued to have better representation within the federation.

With relations between US Youth Soccer and US Soccer hanging by a thread, I still don't see how this is a promotion for Arena.
