Don't blame the officiating for this one.

The Mastroeni red card was bullshit; Eddie Pope's was not.  You simply can't make that tackle when you've already got a yellow card.

And I never, ever feel like the US is a threat on offense.  I'm happy to see the effort return today, but not pleased to see that the team still seems lost once it gets near the goal.

The US is very, very lucky to get out of this with a tie.

why would the us be in if the us wins and the czechs beat the italians? wouldn't both have four points?
    is the tiebreaker goal differential?

Wow, great stuff by Brent - this ref was suspended in 2002 for 'irregularities' and for that reason, didnt ref in the 2002 world cup.

HOW THE F DOES HE END UP IN THIS GAME?

US still has not scored a goal of its own, and Bruce, that means you need to alter something up front.

played well: Donovan, Dempsey, Keller, Pablo, Convey

If US beats Ghana and Italy wins over the Czechs
    Italy-7 pts
    US-4 pts (tie plus win)
Czechs and Ghana-3 pts because both would be 1-2

I enjoy this georgio guy. makes the broadcast more interesting to have a homer from the other team around.

Yes, that's why the 3-0 loss to the Czechs was devastating.

  7. Yeah, and Georgio even agreed that the U.S. got screwed by the referee. That made me feel better since Wynalda, Lalas and Musberger could have seemed like complete homers. I wonder if the rest of the soccer world agrees that we got screwed?

Someone basically said this on the since-nuked thread, but this ref was damn lucky this happened against the U.S. A more typical soccer country and his time on this earth is numbered.

The US still have a very good chance to advance. I think Italy is most likely going to beat the Czech Republic and the US has a good chance to beat Ghana.

I didn't think the officiating was that bad, honestly. Pope did that to himself. Mastroeni's was fairly aggressive (went at his plant foot late) and the Italian guy's elbow on the header was obvious and had intent to injure.

Quit the fussin and SCORE SOME GOALS. Or ONE GOAL.

Musburger mentioned that the ref was suspended before. I don't remember why.....

No no no no no, listen up ok. The red card given to Italy was justified because the guy elbowed McBride in the head. The other two red cards called on the US were bullshit calls. Both players went for the ball.
