Jay, you're especially right about Wynalda. He's been horrific.

He constantly cut off Foudy, as if he didn't like a woman commenting on men's matches. He started to "call out" one player for a horrible play (don't remember for which team), but stopped saying "I don't want to say his name because he plays in the MLS." Lalas and Rece Davis finally got him to say the guy's name.

Chinaglia should be added to World Cup Live full time.

Who's the black guy that comes in sometimes. He's knows a lot more about the game than Wynalda.

I'll weigh in here on the U.S. "taking a step back."

Let's be honest about 2002. We played pretty well, yes, but had to get a break with South Korea beating a Portugal team that tried to fix their game with Korea. We were awful against Poland, but played well the other four matches. Still, we got a big break by playing Mexico in the second round. We own Mexico away from Estadio Azteca, and we proved it again. Then of course we carried that performance over to the Germany game where we outplayed ze Germans. Overall, we were 2-2-1.

If we beat Ghana but fail to advance, we'd be 1-1-1 for the second straight Cup. Considering this was the Group of Death, I'd consider it a sideways step. If we get out of the group and lose to Brazil, I say we did better than 02 even though we wouldn't advance as far.

Lose or tie Ghana, we take a step back.

Just a few quick thoughts on the game. My mind is a little boggled but thought I would share some stuff:

    1. Arena didn't put in fresh legs and allowed the game to expire with 1-sub left unused. Terrible.

    2. Mastro fucked up. He had to know the ref was going to even the game out. The tackle was only worth a yellow, but the ref was looking for it.

    3. Chinaglia is a complete utter piece of shit. He should never be allowed to comment on soccer ever. The man needs to go and go fast.

    4. I lost it when I saw the second goal. Yes it didn't count and shouldn't count, but fuck, I saw that go in and I lost it. Man it was sweet. At least if it was legit it was sweet.

    5. The US can definitely beat Ghana. The guys that scored against Czech will be out. The US needs to show up and put in the effort. It will be rough, though, without Pope or Mastro.

    6. Italy will have a rough go against Czech. Part of me wonders if they just play for a tie to fuck the US and Ghana. The other part of me says that Italy knows they would come in second and because of that, they would play Brazil.

    So, come on US!!!!

But think how much better it could be if it was Fred G.

If Italy and the Czechs tie and Ghana wins, Italy fucks itself. Ghana vs. Socceroos, The Fightin' Louganises vs. Brazil. Italy has to play for a win to guarantee it avoids Brazil.

    1. I still don't understand that strategy.

    3. Wow, Rev. Futbol, I didn't think Chinaglia was that bad. Or, perhaps, my distaste for Wynalda is clouding my view.

At this rate, I think the Americans need to worry 'bout their own business.
Win the f-n game on Thursday, then worry about the result of Italy-Czech.

If diving, flopping and otherwise playing like a bunch of little girls (Hi Portugal!) is the path to becoming a sophisticated soccer nation, I'm all for staying in the hinterlands.
