I know it's my decision to stay up, but my sleep schedule is fucked because of this tournament. I haven't gotten to sleep before 5 a.m. since the damn thing started.

All I want now is for Federer to destroy Roddick in three sets.

Meanwhile, there is shit on the deuce right now. WSOP was on followed by NBA coast to coast..give me a fucking break.
and the 10 p.m. listing for Aussie Open says Maria Sharapova vs. Anna Chakvetadze. what bullshit.

Tell me about it. I'm basically sleeping between 1 and 3:30 and checking out the first set of the 3:30 match to see if its worth losing sleep over.

    SPOILER ALERT for Hingis-Clijsters:

Martina cruises 6-3 in first set. And she's now up 1-0 in the second. I'm shocked, but enthralled. :D

Aw, dude, don't do that. I skipped over without reading. But that's the equivalent of telling someone the result, when you KNOW they taped it and are on their way home to watch it. :D

Don't know if anyone knows (or cares), but JHH's problem at the 2006 Aussie was not "that time of the month".

It was the result of two weeks of taking anti-inflammatories, which, shortly before the final, pretty much set her stomach on fire.

If it sounds like I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt, that's because I saw the gripping 2005 U.S. Open semifinal between JHH and Capriati, in which JHH was cramping horribly and still managed to win, even though she had to be helped off the court and spend the following day on IVs before beating Clijsters in the final.

I don't think a person goes from gladiator to "my tummy hurts" in four months.

Yeah but JHH was getting her ass thoroughly kicked and had no chance to win so she quit. She didn't quit because she was in pain, she quit because she was being embarassed by someone she thought she had a mental edge on.

She's got a history of being tough and she also has a history of being a liar and a sore loser, both of which were on display last year. It was disgraceful to women's tennis and disrespectful to Mauresmo, who clearly deserved the moment. If JHH never made it out of the first round of another Grand Slam I'd consider it justice served.

    That's a gross exaggeration.

She was getting her ass kicked . . . because she could hardly function. It took about 90 seconds of watching that match to see somthing was wrong.

Sometimes it really is pointless to go on. Would Mauresmo's victory have really been that much more satisfying had she knocked 16 winners past an immobile opponent?

A few years ago on the eve of the Key Biscayne final, Goran Ivanisevic woke up with a painful neck cramp after sleeping at an awkward angle. Same thing happened to me a couple of months ago. Simply rotating for a backhand caused sharp pain.

Anyway, Goran tried. For three games. Couldn't function at all. It was a joke. Fans who didn't know the reason were booing Goran's "effort." They continued to boo after he retired, until Agassi got on the microphone and explained the situation.

Now, should Goran have kept at it, losing point after point and making a mockery of a tournament final? Of course not.

Mauresmo won two other matches that tournament with the benefit of an opponent who retired. Should Clijsters have continued on that injured ankle? Or is quitting only taboo in a final?

Let's face it, your amimosity toward JHH has clouded your memory and/or your objectivity. Which is kind of funny, because if there is a poster woman for pulling out of tournaments and never giving her opponent credit it's . . . Serena Williams.

Absolutely. Why wait until it's 2-0 in the second set to quit? Why not quit after losing the first set 6-1. She's already went through an hour of "horrific pain and suffering", why not finish it?

Three games, not a set and a half. Like I said, had she quit at the end of the first set, I wouldn't have had any problem with it.

Talk about a gross exagerration. Cjisters didn't quit, she couldn't WALK. She couldn't have continued if she wanted to. And given her reputation for being a sportsman (sportsperson?) above all, she probably would've stood there and played the points if that's what it required.

And this has exactly what to do with what JHH pulled last year?
