The Red Sox lost Donnelly for the season; Pineiro -- who was supposed to be the closer in spring training, remember that? -- was so terrible they recently designated him for assignment and shipped him to St. Louis; Delcarmen started in Boston, got demoted to Triple-A and is back and pitching well again; and no one knew what to make of Okajima or how to use him when he came overseas.

At the start of the season, people viewed that bullpen as a weakness. They've pieced it together, though.

    Check again bubbs....

    Cubs .538
    Brewers .537

Check back at the end of the month, however, when the Cubbies are 6 games behind.

Yeah, but they survived the first two months throwing Chase Wright, Tyler Clippard and a bunch of other crazy minor leaguers who had no business starting major league baseball games out there.
I also wouldn't call Miguel Cairo/Andy Phillips all-stars when they were platooning at first base for a month.
All I am saying is Torre will get consideration if the Yankees make the playoffs and especially if they win the division.

And Oz: I agree the bullpen was a question mark coming into the season, but it has performed very well the last couple of months.

So where are our Twinkies fanboyloosers now that Johan has basically said this organization sucks:

Dammit! Don't mess with my karma grab! Let the Cubs fans be Cubs fans and set up their own downfall.

On a serious note, I don't see it happening for the Brewers, I think the Cubs might stick. The Brewers are listing and taking in water. They definitely didn't need to have their bullpen and starting rotation decimated in two games.

Johan Santana probably isn't on their minds right now, Spnited.

Any chance the Twins trade Johan before his contract is up?

What's the market going to be for him, after he's ripped the organization? What's Terry Ryan going to say, ''Give us your four best prospects for Johan''? Right. Other teams are going to say, "Yeah, right. We'll wait until he's a FA and back up a Brinks truck to his house."

Priceless. I'd like to quiz the Wrigley Field fans about now and find out how many of them know more players' names than the names of the bars around Wrigley. :)
