The umpire clearly blew the call in the third inning, which opened the door for Chicago's six-run inning, but I don't think it really mattered with Lilly throwing like that.

Or, Ortiz will pitch really well and the Indians will lose. Of course, it took me until recently to realize the Tigers are now leading the wild card. At least they were heading into the day.

Which almost makes for the missed third strike and the foul ball that was called fair in the top of the ninth yesterday.

Well, maybe LaRussa's plan is working. No. 9 hitter Adam Kennedy just homered.

And no one is happier than LaRussa. Now he doesn't have to answer so many questions about the switch.

Those same Royals could probably contend in the NL Central, but that's neither here nor there.

Anyway, guess I'll be keeping that ticket stub to today's Royals-Yankees game. I knew I wouldn't see a Royals win (they've now lost 18 of their last 19 in the Bronx). I thought I might see history, though, with Kyle Davies on the mound. Hunch proved correct on both.

Keep telling yourself the Royals could compete in the NL Central, Oz. It's all y'all can cling to at this point. :p

Given how the Royals constantly win in interleague play each year, it's not that far fetched. They would be good enough to compete, I have no doubt about that.

And hey, at least the Royals have won a World Series since 1908.

You fight dirty, I see. OK.

I would point out that you needed a blown call to win that World Series, but then I'd be sticking up for the Cardinals. And that ain't gonna happen in this lifetime.

The Royals are 86-107 in interleague play since it was introduced in 1997
The Cubs are 78-79 since it was introduced in 1997

The link is only through 2006: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/history/interleague/records.jsp
Royals are 10-8 and Cubs 8-4 in 2007.

What I can't figure out is why the Royals have played so many more interleague games.
