Ryan Howard hits one so far that Scully just gives out a laughing "Oh my gosh".

Yep he's got 2 tonight. 24 on the year and that's after missing three weeks with a quad pull.

Was it a bomb or just a short shot like his first? I don't have the game on.

Angola, wherever you are, you're welcome. ;)

The second one was an absolute bomb. About 10 rows deep to left-center. It's one of those homers where as soon as he hits it you know it's gone by the sound the ball makes hitting the bat.

Scully's now openly rooting for Philadelphia's catcher to get a hit, since he's 0-for-4 on a night the team has 13 runs and 21 hits.

After he strikes out: [scully]Ugh. Hang in there, Chris[/scully]

There's always one guy who takes the collar in a game like this. I would have put my money on Wes Helms.

I don't think I ever understood, or appreciated, Scully until tonight. He's brilliant in a blowout.

    I would have said Burrell.

I'll echo ... it was positively crushed. Made Scully go off on how ordinarily guys can't hit them that high AND far at the same time. Pierre gave it a cursory walk back and then watched it the rest of the way.

I can't believe I'm about to defend Pat Burrell ...

But he *is* hitting .444 in July with an OBP of .568 and a slugging percentage of .815. Admittedly it's only 10 games and 27 ABs, but it's something. He does tend to go for stretches where he looks positively decent -- if not good. They just tend not to last very long.
