And the Giants now lead the Brewers 8-4. The lead soon will be 2 1/2 games.

    Cubs are coming.

Too bad it won't be. It's a race between Beckett, Sabathia, Haren and Verlander.

Only four more if you include the All-Star Game victory.

Also, with a win Saturday or Sunday in Detroit, the Royals would finish a nine-game road trip to Cleveland, Boston at Detroit with a winning record. They really are playing better baseball these days. They're now 23-18 since June began.

A little more than halfway through, Erik Bedard is making a bunch of west coast deskers nervous and a bunch of east coasters pretty mad about the way he's throwing. It won't last, but he's making Oakland look silly.

I'm pistol-whipping the guy who starts the thread tonight.

If Bedard had the run support most other pitchers received, he'd be going for his 15th win tonight. Of course, he plays for the Orioles, where runs are a luxury.

    Goodbye, no-hitter. Goodbye, shutout.

The no-hitter and shutout are now over.

Bob Milacki, Mike Flanagan, Mark Williamson and Gregg Olson can all rest easily tonight.

Flanagan isn't resting easy at all now that Andy MacPhail is his new boss. The Otter ruled though.
