Sorry man. I totally whiffed on that one. That was quite a subtle joke, and it flew way over my head and crapped on it.

    Accept my humble apologies.

As good as he is, Bedard can be a real prick sometimes. For instance, after his game tonight:

reporter: Is this the best three-game stretch of your career?

    Bedard: I don't know.

Reporter for Orioles owned network: You don't know your old numbers?

    Bedard: Nope.

Reporter for Orioles owned network: Why not?

    Bedard: Cuz.

And then the boobs back in the studio laugh at how Bedard really isn't a bad guy, and just has to deal with bad questions from the media, and highlighted that sequence in particular with their co-worker as an example.

Erik Bedard: Making Orioles writers pine for the witticims of Mike Mussina since 2003.

I have a lot to do today, so I'm the lazy approach of asking a question here so others will do my research for me. Is tonight's Phillies-Padres game, with Jamie Moyer and David Wells taking the mound, the oldest combined age for the starting pitchers in a game of all time? It's 88, which is a high number.

Some of these guys need to retire. I'm sick of hearing that stat. It seems that every couple of weeks, the record for oldest pitching matchup is broken.

That'll require a little work. Moyer's had several similar games this year. I'll try to find it.

April 12: Moyer/Glavine was oldest matchup of left-handed starters in major league history.

Google says: The oldest starting pitching matchup ever occurred June 8, 1987, when right-handers Phil Niekro and Don Sutton hooked up. Their combined age was 90 years, 135 days.
