Hey Buck, how would you feel about this trade? Can't think you'd like it too much.

  2. Ryan Howard has ended it in 14 with a monster two-run blow, his 28th.

...And J.J. Putz picks a fantastic moment in the season to blow his first save, squandering a great two-out comeback in a true pivot game in the Mariners' struggle to stay in contention.

    M's officially in trouble.

It's been a long time since I rooted against the Mariners for more reasons than just hating them. Thanks J.J.

I'll say this: The Braves would give up a lot more by letting Salty go than the Dodgers would give up with Loney. And I really like Loney.

That said, unless the Braves consider Salty the future at first base ... and I don't think they do ... well, they have to do something with him. Personally, I like the idea of making him the full-time first baseman (hi HP! :D).

But assuming they're going to lose Andruw, you want a big bat to replace him -- especially with Chipper getting up in age -- and I don't think Salty is that big bat. Yet.

As average as Tex has been this season, I don't think Atlanta's getting screwed over here. He just turned 27, and he's put up a monster first/last four years. They obviously have no problem parting with Davies, but they will need another good starter ASAP. Then again, who doesn't?

Texeira is legit. I would love for the Yankees to aquire him, but I am not sure about the price the Rangers are asking.
I just didn't like the trade for the Braves because their starting pitching is thin and giving up Davies would be questionable, even if it means getting a big bat.

Tex is legit, and he's a Yellow Jacket (hi hoops! :D), so I think he'd be comfortable back in Atlanta.

I don't mind giving up Davies. He's inconsistent in the same way Odalis Perez was, and Jason Marquis was, and Terrell Wade was, and none of the above were worth keeping.

They'll need somebody to fill that 4-5 starter's spot. But I don't think giving up Davies and Salty for Tex is a bad deal to make, provided Tex hits like he has the last four years and not the first half this year.

Is Davies in the rotation right now?

    Meche is reverting to type.

The M's, on the other hand, are way out of character on this road trip. ;)

But, seriously; the coming series against the A's and the Angels in the Safe will be more indicative of what's to come. Murphy's Law caught up with them; these things tend to fluctuate.

Yankees with me in attendance: 14-4 L, Tampa Bay
Yankees after I show up: 6-0, outscore opponents 70-19

Baltimore's a reasonable drive for me, so if you want my hexing powers, buy me a ticket and some crabcakes.
