Could be worse. At least the SEC doesn't send its No. 4 team to the same stadium to play in a third-tier game.

I got it wrong. As ucacm pointed out, the Outback and Cotton bowls are the top two non-BCS games for the SEC.

Meanwhile, just for Zags (who is STILL arguing with himself, apparently), the ACC sent its number two to the Music City Bowl this year. Granted, it took Bowden's retirement for Clemson to fall that far, but still, the idea that any major conference's number two team could fall to the Music City Bowl (where Kentucky -- a 7-5 team that finished fourth in the SEC East) is ridiculous.

    1. The Cap One is the No. 1 non-BCS game for SEC teams. It gets first selection of all SEC schools that aren't selected by the BCS.

    2. My team has never been to the Cap One and likely never will be good enough to go. However, there's at least ONE thing the bowl has going for it: The highest payout of any non-BCS game.

    Cap One: $4.25 million
Chick-fil-A: $3.25 million ($2.4M for the SEC rep)
    Cotton: $3 million
    Outback: $3 million

And those are the only non-BCS games with a $3M+ payout

Oh, and sorry, Zag, but the Bama rivals board appears to be a pay site. But the scout board should give you plenty of ammunition:

    Enjoy.

And, remember, those guys speak for all SEC fans. Every single one of us. So be sure and run back here to tell us all the ridiculous and unsavory things they're saying.

Or give the top team from the non-qualifying conferences a Cotton Bowl spot, in case Boise State or a C-USA entry is the best of the bunch.

This is absolutely ridiculous. The stadium is a dump in a bad part of town. That's the only thing you can say negative about the game.

    Pros:

Mid-day slot on ABC on New Years Day. There are only a handful of bowls that come on network TV anymore, and this has one of the best time slots.

The only bowl game to match the #1 non-BCS picks from two AQCs, the SEC and Big Ten.

In a great tourist city with normally great weather.

Biggest payout of all non-BCS games (and it's not even close).

I've been to the Capital One Bowl before and would spend my own money to go back over every other bowl outside of a BCS game.

Why would the Cotton Bowl give up an SEC-Big 12 matchup to have the opportunity to get stuck with a 10-2 East Carolina when Utah has a down year?

The Cap One is the worst game-day experience a fan can have, and I laid out all the reasons previously and I speak from experience. If you gave me a ticket for a dollar I wouldn't go back to this game. The best thing that could happen is that Disney decides it wants the game on its property and builds a stadium there, where people don't have to fear for their lives going back to their hotel. I could care less how much money the sponsors have to divide among the teams; if a fan is going to travel 1,000 miles to see a bowl game, there are many better choices than this one.

A sports stadium in a bad part of town? For real?

And while I've never been, I'd love to hear the number of fans assaulted after leaving that game with 50,000 other fans in the middle of the afternoon. I'm guessing it's pretty low. As in really, really low.
