In the final AP Poll, Bama got all 60 first-place votes and Boise was fourth, four points behind Texas:

    1 Alabama (60) 14-0 1500
    2 Texas 13-1 1399
    3 Florida 13-1 1370
    4 Boise State 14-0 1366
    5 Ohio State 11-2 1224
    6 TCU 12-1 1163
    7 Iowa 11-2 1126
    8 Cincinnati 12-1 1060
    9 Penn State 11-2 1016
    10 Virginia Tech 10-3 953

  4. That is such bullshit.

This is why I loathe college football from Nov. on. The big boys win again, unanimously (my ass).

Every year at this time we have...

    A National Champion - Alabama

A team that loses to the National Champion who looks like they had no business playing the National Champion - Texas

An undefeated team in a non-BCS conference who many people think is underappreciated - Boise State

A team or two that catches a hot streak and looks like they should have played in the BCS Title Game - Ohio State, Florida

A team who likes a house of cards after having their ass shown in a big bowl game - Cincy

Just change the teams each season, but with the current BCS system, this is the way it seems to play out every year.

Texas looked to me to have every bit of business being in that game. It cut the lead to three points in the fourth quarter with a backup QB going something like 14-40. Having said that, I agree with other posters that Alabama appeared to be the better team regardless of McCoy's health.

And what hot streak did Florida get on? The one in which they got shit-stomped by the Tide in Atlanta?

I agree on this, though: The BCS resolution always seems to be a bit unsatisfying.

I agree Key, there was not that "other" team this season, but Texas was cooked at half. Bama just seemed to turn it on and off as needed.

When you watch these big games like this, you appreciate how good the NFL coaches are at preparing players and teams for a big game. Alabama had an awful script coming out and once you get past the starting QB in college, the backup just never seems remotely ready to play.

And when have a defense like Bama, why in God's name to accept the open kickoff and not defer to the second half?

Does Alabama look better than Boise? Yes.
Did Alabama play a tougher schedule? Yes.
It's similar to figure skating and gymnastics. One looks better, so they get the title. One had a stronger "program," so they get the title. One had better "execution," so they get the title. If you're comfortable with major college football being along the same level as figure skating, then the BCS is fine.

It doesn't have to be that way.

  9. Awesome ...
Figure skating and gymnastics... and cheerleading ... and major college football all competitions decided by judges ...
The same sports writers who declare cheerleading has no business in the sports pages, because it is a judged competition, have no probelm awarding a national a major college national championship based on style points.

As have I stated this for years ... The system will not change until fans force it to change. Until they stop attending bowl games and stop watching them on TV the system will remain in place.

Looks like a vote by the baseball writers.

Well, I stopped watching last night after Alabama's first TD, since the outcome was a foregone conclusion. Does that help?
I still enjoy the lower bowls, which are upfront exhibition games with no pretense. It's the BCS games I can't take.

Waaaahhhh. It's not fair that teams won't come to Boise.

Bullshit. Boise needs to go on the road and play them, like Florida State did for the better part of two decades. That is, of course, if Boise actually wants the big-boy seat everyone claims it deserves. I remain convinced that Boise is perfectly happy to play the victim card.

And of course, now that Boise will likely begin next season in the top 5, despite owning three victories over BCS-conference opposition since Jan. 2, 2007, that plan seems quite genius. Just keep blowing out patsies and WACsies and eventually you'll tumble ass-backwards into a championship game.
