First, the BCS does involve the NCAA, which is the sanctioning body for every bowl.

Second, FBS teams cannot play more than 14 games in a season (or 15 if they play at Hawaii), including bowls. So even if the BCS wanted to run its own 18, 8 or 4-team tournament it couldn't, unless it wants its participants to bolt the NCAA, cut back to a 10-game season, or lengthen the season even more.

    And that ain't happening.

With a playoff, the Rose, Orange, Fiest, etc., bowls disappear, even if there's a game played at those venues. No way those bowl committees work for the NCAA. And Oregon-Ohio State in a first-round playoff game at Pasadena isn't the Rose Bowl. Not even close.

Making no judgments whatsoever as to the relative merits of the two systems, I hope the Alabama-Texas game is that exciting. Helluva game.

Good for NWMS. Those guys lost the last four title games. Nice to see them win one. It was kinda nice not having to deal with all that mess this year, though. :)

Ditto on the NW Mizzou thoughts. It got to be a tradition decorating the Christmas tree while watching those players hang their heads in despair. Congrats.

Yes I'm sure the rules couldn't be changed. As it is now the BCS has imposed a Penthouse and Ghetto to the FBS.

I'm betting Ohio State and Oregon would probably rather be playing for a chance at the the national title in a playoff than playing in the Rose Bowl. But, then again playing in the Rose Bowl keeps Ohio State from being humiliated in the title game.

    Ah, yes, Joe Barton . . . a disingenuous, oil-industry toady in
    a body full of them . . .

Unlike the BCS big cigars who work up backroom deals to keep Boise State and TCU from embarrassing their BCS Schools.

Yes, the rules could be change. But NCAA rule changes come from the member schools, and the FBS presidents have made it quite clear they want nothing whatsoever to do with a playoff.

And I do believe that Oregon is quite content with a Rose Bowl berth. Very content, if you must know.

Rose Bowl was the wrong example to use.
