I'm trying to figure which will be the biggest ACK! bowl. ACK! being the sound you make when something really bad happens between the time you submit your bowl picks and the the time the game kicks off.
Right now the early favorites are controversy after South Florida coach strikes player ahead of International Bowl; Ohio State starts gripping over the Rose Bowl early; Luck likely out out of Sun Bowl.

What benefit does the Fiesta Bowl get out of hurting its own game by taking an opponent it doesn't want?

The promise of other bowls letting good teams slide to it in the future? (completely hypothetical)

    BYU looks pretty damn good.
Either that or Oregon State was so deflated after losing the Civil War they didn't really care.
But I guess anytime a powerhouse conference team loses to a lesser team, it will alway be that they didn't care becase of some regular season disappointment.

Wonder how much of tonight's Beaver Bed-shitting was the result of some kind of Civil War hangover?

Or if such a phenomenon exists...

I'd be curious to see the bowl records for teams coming off of a loss, and data on the bowl records for teams coming off of a conference championship loss/de facto conference championship loss.

So is anybody going to use BYU spanks Beavers as a headline?

Beavers played their worst game of the year - the offensive line sucked, Canfield couldn't hit receivers in stride, receivers and backs couldn't keep their feet, curious coaching, "clutch" penalties and turnovers... Throw that in with a solid BYU team that actually made plays and you get what happened.
That being the case, Katz looked good, the Beavs have a ton of people coming back and hopefully are bringing a suitcase full of unfinished business home with them to Corvallis to keep them pumped during the off-season. When you have a "meltdown" game, I'd rather it happened in Vegas than in Pasadena or with a Rose Bowl on the line.

So the Mountain West improves to 2-0 in bowls, with Wyoming and BYU. Not a bad start.
