Nobody had a clue that Tom Brady would be arguably the top 1 or 2 quarterbacks in the NFL.

    Do you disagree with that?

And a look at the Miami Dolphins' drafting this decade suggests that getting one right is the "exception to the rule." On the 58 players the team drafted from 1998 to 2003, ZERO were on the roster in 2007.

And my beef is not with scouts or GMs who make the occasional mistake. It's with people who AREN'T scouts or personnel people (see YGBFKMLMNOP) who state unequivocally that "there is no debate" about whether a college star can be an NFL player.

Of course there's a debate. Player evaluation is NOT easy, which is why there will always be a debate.

How did Todd Mcshay become the ESPN draft "expert" . Yesterday he had a segment on bleak Tebow's NFL prospects supported by Phil Salvage-- former GM of The Browns. The guy most responsible for where they are today.

Big 10's doing fine, especially against expectations (ATS).
Pac-10 should hide in a deep, dark cave for the duration.

Trade "Oregon" and "Miami" for "Alabama" and "Florida" and the dynamic might change a bit.

So the Fat 10's having a nice bowl season. Congrats. Still doesn't delete the past, I dunno, five? It also helped to play an LSU team which I'm convinced has the biggest moron in NCAA football as its head coach (screen pass at midfield with 36 seconds to go. Really, Les?) and one of the weaker Pac 10 champions since......well, the last time Oregon made the Rose Bowl.

Big East went undefeated in bowls in 2006 and I didnt see anyone saying, "ya know, we were wrong about these guys. I mean, look at their bowl record." Same applies to the Fat 10.

Not that far back. Christmas Eve, right after two weekends of four high school championship games apiece.

As part of the downtown renovations package, they're replacing the grass with Fieldturf or something similar this year.

I know it doesn't tell the entire truth, but (most) everything that needs to be said about Tebow in relation to his draft status will come to light after the combine.

It's hard to know exactly how he would fit onto a team -- hell, maybe he will be a decent NFL quarterback -- but there's a position for him. I'd take him on my team in a second.

Whenever I look at that picture, I swear I can hear the words faintly.

Cincinnati Alabama was ranked No. 3 heading into this game last year's Sugar Bowl. So all the computers and all the polls and all the variables came up with that collection of talent as the THIRD-BEST TEAM IN THE NATION. To think we were one second quarter away from those guys against Alabama Ohio State for the BCS title.

    Same song, different year.

Last year's Alabama team was exposed early as a team that couldn't carry the reputation it was getting. At least, that's what I thought.

Still not sure why the poll voters jumped on that bandwagon last year.

  12. Please. Before the bowls, all I heard about Oregon was "Speed, speed, speed! Ohio State won't be able to keep up!" Same with LSU and Penn State. Same with Northwestern and Auburn.

For whatever it's worth, the Big Ten is having a nice bowl season. No need to qualify it in hindsight.

And everyone seems to forget that slow, plodding Michigan upended the Great Tim Tebow, Heisman Trophy winner (with three losses), the Greatest College Coach of All Time, and the defending national champions just two years ago in a New Year's Day Bowl.
