    That's what I thought. I didn't see any contact. But I'd still like to have seen another angle.

    Penn State has much better players, but Notre Dame is much better coached.

    All jokes aside, it really is how they teach the defense to play it and has been forever. So the whole look at the ball thing is a weak argument. Usually they don't look for the ball and run into the receiver so it's obvious.

    The idea is that the defender has just as much right to a ball in the air as the receiver. If he's going for the ball and makes contact with the receiver in doing so, it's not a foul. So if the defender is not looking for the ball he's obviously not going after it, so if there's contact that impedes the receiver, it's PI.
