I'm conflicted too. Also a MW guy, although of a school leaving, and fan of the little guy, but Boise is tough to like and their entitlement is a little much.

But overall they held their own and left a lot of points on the field. It's tough to say they didn't deserve to be here.

This tournament has two B1G-SEC semifinals written all over it.

I don't have a problem with the Big 10 and SEC dominating the playoff if they dominate. I do have a problem with letting in those conference also-rans who deem themselves worthy of a playoff bid just because they wear the same patch on their jersey.

Well, it's not like they invited the 21st- and 24th-ranked SEC and B1G schools to the tournament just to give those conferences some extra teams in the thing. If you're going to stage one of these 12-team things, it's kind of hard to leave out teams ranked 7th and 9th, regardless of how they stunk up the first round. Hell, Ohio State once lost a playoff game to Clemson 31-0. It happens.

I think 12 is the correct number. You might see some changing in who gets the first-round bye, but whomever survives this is a legit national champion and not a fluke.

I also like seeing teams, and players, on a larger stage.

I just hope the committee and poll voters don't consciously "discount" non-SEC and Big10 teams going forward.

The surest way not to be discounted is to beat a big boy.

The surest way to continue to be discounted is never to beat one, shrug your shoulders and say, "Well, we beat everyone on our crappy schedule."

Every big boy says this and then refuses to schedule non-power four teams who have any chance of beating them.

It’s something mid-major basketball programs run into. Make a run to the Sweet 16 and then see how fast a ranked team hangs up when you try to schedule them the next season.

They want patsies and then to call every aspiring program a fraud because they don’t play anyone.

    It’s a cartel.

Boise St. gave a decent account of itself. It stayed in the game until their kicker missed his second FG. About all I would say definitively about the new playoff is that the on-campus games sure seem to give the home team a significant advantage.

Penn State was a little better but back to back drives by Boise in the second half ... 13 plays and 12 plays ... produced 0 points when the game was for the taking.

And yes the missed field goal that would have made it 24-17 was the dagger.

They also missed a field goal on their opening drive, and it was garbage time but threw another interception inside the Penn State 20.

While you absolutely can't do that in any game, it is also plenty of material to kick yourself today if you are Boise State.

If these playoff teams are all so great how come they are only .500 in the postseason so far?
