Apparently the word is that Phil Bennett and his entire staff are out at SMU -- despite going to the school's first bowl bid since before the death penalty.

 

SMU finished bowl eligible but won't be going to a bowl. CUSA has more bowl eligible teams than spots available. Rice and SMU were basically told that the winner of their game would play in bowl and the loser would stay home.

 

Oh, and Steve Orsini's a fucking idiot of the highest order if he canned Phil Bennett.

If the AD at North Texas has half a brain he's already setting up an interview with Bennett.
