Fortunately, Maine seems to be playing the role of Ned Ryerson....

It's amazing that BU even got into the tournament with such spotty offense. Once Curry became human again, it was all over.
Unless there's a stud goalie on the horizon we don't know about yet, Jack Parker is '08 National Coach of the Year if the Terriers even get into next year's tournament.
And I like Sparty against the Domers tomorrow.

Sparty has a decided home-ice advantage, even if Notre Dame is a center ice slapshot away from Grand Rapids.

State's bound for the Kiel Center.

Which means Maine probably wins this one, just because. But you're right, I don't know what to expect in that one.

And of course, if they don't, and the Black Bears have lost to UMass five times in three weeks, there will be a run on rope at Orono-area hardware stores.

Good call, Gillette - the last ECAC team to play for the title was Colgate in 1990 - the year after Harvard won the whole thing. Last team to make the Frozen Four was Cornell in 2003...

And as far as CHA being as good as the ECAC, you're certainly not that far off. I've mentioned on here that while it's called the Big 4 leagues, it's really not fair to the top three to lump the ECAC in with them - it's more like the top three, ECAC as a mid-major, then the other two. Would the top teams in CHA be competitive in the ECAC? Most likely, given the CHA actually had a winning record against the ECAC this season. (http://www.uscho.com/stats/inter-conf.php)

Still, I think Clarkson was hurt more by the quality of Quick today than by their own lack of offense. Hockey's the only game where one player can change the entire result of the game. Clarkson and UMass were pretty even, I thought, just that Leggio made the first mistake.

    Saturday's games:
    Denver
Air Force v. Minnesota, 3:30 et
North Dakota v. Michigan, 7:30 et

    Manchester
Miami v. New Hampshire, 1 et
St. Lawrence v. Boston College, 4:40 et

    Grand Rapids
Michigan State v. Notre Dame, 8:30 et

    Rochester
    UMass v. Maine, 6 et

    I agree, partially.

Part of Clarkson's problem, though, was it's complete lack of interest in playing offense.

They forechecked just one guy for most of the game. That's bullshit. Hell, Alabama-Huntsville forechecked two for 95 minutes against Notre Dame, and backchecked their asses off, and if it weren't for a power play, they might still be playing.

I admit that I never see the ECAC teams until the tournament, but whenever I do, it seems like they play the most boring hockey of all time.

It's college hockey. Get thy ass up and down the ice!

Bishop didn't play in any of Maine's four consecutive losses to UMass. if he plays well tonight, I think Maine wins a low-scoring game.

This may belong on the journalism thread, but I noticed this morning that both Boston papers had two people in Manchester advancing BC, and hired stringers to cover BU in faraway Grand Rapids.
    Pathetic.

I noticed that, too. I was shocked that the Globe didn't send someone to Grand Rapids, though I'm sure there were few volunteers.
