How does Cornell look? Anyone? Bueller?

I know they got stomped by Yale in the ECAC final, but they had played a double OT semi the night before, so who knows what the final means, if anything?

I saw them play one of their ECAC playoff games and was not at all impressed.

I saw BU play Denver in Denver just after the New Year. That team made the Pioneers look like a joke. They dominated the play the entire night. Not even close.

I expect the Pioneers to lose in the first round this year. Too many injuries.

JJ, I follow ECAC hockey a little. Not a huge college hockey fan but have a rooting interest cause of Cornell. I watched a bunch of ECAC games this year. Cornell looks same as always since Mike Schafer has been coach. Good, hulking defense that had one of the best goals against in the country. They are tough to score on. They try to keep the game ugly. Their offense is not going to overwhelm anyone. The goaltender, Ben Scrivens, looked all world early in the year, but wasn't as good during the second half of the season. He has had a lot of hold your breath moments lately. One forward, Riley Nash, was a first-round NFL pick last draft, and he got better and better as the year went along, and his linemate Colin Greening went on an incredible scoring tear that saved their season after they lost a bunch of games to fall off about 3/4 of the way through. But after their first two lines, they don't have much to offer on offense. I'll be rooting for Cornell, and I think they have a chance to beat Northeastern, but they shouldn't be able to hang with at least 8 of the teams in this tournament. One interesting thing was that they had Princeton's number this season and Princeton is in. But Yale beat them three times this year, including a beat down in the ECAC championship. It's weird for someone my age to see Yale good at hockey. Just doesn't seem right.

NoDak is one of the craziest places to see a hockey game. Did you ever see the video from the Denver-NoDak game earlier this season, when the DU coach went across the ice to confront a referee?

Too bad about UNH's recent postseason futility. I was talking about a team not going to the postseason and a UNH beat writer said, "Try going to the NCAA tournament and not seeing your team win for years."

However, James van Riemsdyk is the real deal. Overshadowed in quality by BU's Colin Wilson, though.

Ragu, thanks for the assessment. I like to pay attention to Cornell because Schafer and I are from the same part of Ontario. He's a really good guy and most of his family still lives in this area.

I, too, think Boston U will win it all.

I know Denver, despite its top seed in its region, still isn't expected to do much, but I'll still be rooting for them, too.

JJ, I went to school with him. He was a really fun player, and yeah, he is a good guy. He also spawned one of the best hockey chants I remember whenever he hit the ice: "Kill, Schafer, Kill!"

OK, couple of questions for US college puckheards:

Who's the favourite in the tourney? BU? ND? (Please, not them)

    Who's the dark horse?

    Will the Prez show up?

    BU is the favorite.

I'd say watch out for Michigan and don't be surprised if Princeton wins the Minneapolis regional.
