Bemidji! The good folks are going to riot in Northern Minnesota tonight ...

The pairings, according to the Washington Sports Alliance, are BU vs. Vermont and Miami-Ohio vs. Bemidji. So there will be Hockey East representation in the national championship game.

    GO BEAVS!!!!

For those not knowing, Bemidji was the bottom seed in the tourney -- think Morehead State going to the final four...

  5. At least there is one team remaining I can pull for in the Frozen Four. Had BSU lost, I don't think I would have been able to stomach watching the games.

P.S. Slappy, I believe you're right, but why did Ohio State have to face overall No. 1 BU in the opening round?

Hate to cut in on Slappy, but part of the bracket organization came on the basis of travel and also on the NCAA not wanting to group more than two teams from the same conference in the regionals. Thus the unusual seeding alignment.

  7. If I was in charge, I would have kept Ohio State in the Midwest and shipped BSU out to the Northeast. Yeah, BSU would have had to travel further, but North Dakota was sent there and it was a higher seed. BSU's travel arrangements, as the lowest seed getting in, would not have been a consideration. Swapping OSU and BSU wouldn't have affected the two conference teams per regional quota, either.
I'm sure I'm missing something. And ultimately, it doesn't matter, of course. It's not like any of that would have benefited UMD. :'(

Good to see both Miami and Bemidji in there -- the game could use some new faces. Maybe UNO next year?

Miami's story is especially good considering they were ranked No. 1 at some point last year. Didn't they lose to a 4 in 08?

But, of course, I'm a BU guy, so I'm hopeful they won't dog it like they did tonight.

All night I was screaming at BU to put the damn puck on net.
Figures the winning goal goes in off a UNH player's arm. Goes to show you should shoot the thing or get it to the slot - you never know what'll happen, and it can be good.
God, did Millan bail us out tonight. Two Van Riemsdyk breakaways, and about three more eight-bellers. The game should've been over.

  10. Wish I'd been able to see the games. No ESPNU where I'm at tonight. I figured that BU-UNH game would be a good one.

They said something last night about logistics... Dont remember what or if they went into specifics...

Watched a lot of the tournament this weekend. Simply fabulous emotion and energy. Great games. Amazing finishes. However, the fact that Bemidji needs to only win two games in two days to reach the Frozen Four doesn't fly for me. It's great for them, no doubt, and a great story. But everyone knows a Morehead State et. al. isn't going to win the NCAA tourney or make the Final Four in basketball. It takes too many upsets. Maybe get really, really, really, really lucky and win one or two games, but never the Final Four (George Mason being the lone true exception, but even that team wasn't a 15 or 16 seed or anythign like that).

I guess what I'm saying is that Bemidji should have to do more to make the Frozen Four than just win two games over teams that overlooked them.

Am I wrong, or in the past didn't they play double-elimination in the regional round? Has it always just been 16 teams, single-elimination? Love college hockey, but I'm not clear as to all its history. Thanks.
