Then there was the afternoon game in Cinci where the coolant pipes got punctured and caused the delay for the night game for hours...

Wasn't there a point when it was 12 teams? Or am I just hallucinating?

And, yes, I agree, the break between the regionals and Frozen Four sucks. Women's hoops gets it as well in a way, since many of the conference tourneys are up to two weeks prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament.

Personally, I'd rather push the regionals back a week and make them all Friday-Sunday. Play the regional finals in the afternoon, leading up to the women's Final Four games and have the Frozen Four the following week. Just a thought.

Now that women's hoop is Sunday-Tuesday, why not go back to a Saturday afternoon final before the men's hoop Final Four? The last two times BU made the final (95 and 97), that's how it was. And I think the women's Final Four was Saturday-Sunday afternoons then, too.

Maybe TV dictates a prime-time final...

It was 12 teams from 1988-2002. Also, in the 1980s the first round of the tournament was a two-game, total goals series at the higher seed's rink. They went to best-of-three for a few years, then to the single-elimination regional format.

That was the last time Vermont was there -- never forget the sight of coolant percolating up through the ice like Jed Clampett's bubbling crude. Playing on a bumpy, swampy surface took away Vermont's speed advantage and they ended up losing in OT on a contested call.

The Hobey Baker finalists were announced, and I'll bet the winner is from Boston: BU's Colin Wilson and Matt Gilroy, and Northeastern's Brad Thiessen.

My vote's for Colin Wilson, probably the best all-around college player this season. (also the son of former NY Ranger/Calgary Flame/Hartford Whaler Carey Wilson) But I have a feeling it will be Matt Gilroy.

But I could be wrong ...

Miami downs Cinderell- I mean, Bemidji State, 3-1. And BU gets two goals from Colin Wilson to beat Vermont, 5-4.

Miami-Ohio vs. Boston U. for the national title on Saturday.
