Little non-scholarship Union beats big, bad Minnesota for the title. Use whatever David vs. Goliath metaphor you wish.

I wouldn't go that far. Union has been on the upswing for several years. They were ranked first in the last poll.

It was a tossup going in, but the big guy vs. little guy is a better story. I'm guessing that got more play nationally.

The better team won. Congratulations to Union.

And to follow up Friday's idiocy, yes, there were arrests in Dinkytown last night:

Facing another night of raucous Gophers hockey fans, Minneapolis police turned out in force to clear the streets of Dinkytown after the NCAA title game Saturday night, making 19 arrests and firing paint pellets at a sometimes unruly crowd.

But this guy got his money's worth:

One man who mooned officers was knocked to the ground, handcuffed and taken away.

One of 10 non-scholarship hockey programs.

If I really wanted to hurt you, I'd mention that that the Gophers also lost to the last non-scholarship team to win an NCAA title (Harvard).

I'd also mention that that game was played in St. Paul.

But I don't want to hurt you so I won't bring it up.

Never thought the Gophers would give up 7. Best of three, anyone?

Interesting looking at Union College roster. Origin of players are
mostly from USAHL , CJHL and high level prep schools. They are not
recruiting your average 17 year old HS kid.

When you do the math everyone of those kids parents spend thousands
    to get them there.

The game thread over on USCHO was kinda funny.

EDIT: Saw Boom's post. Some truth to that. Still, Union was the better team. Minnesota has adjusted their recruiting in the last 3 years or so to meet the requirements of the game today.

HC Rick Bennett is another in the Lou Lamoriello / Providence College lineage.
