I hope somebody points out that the first baseman was as much at fault as the second baseman on that fatal throwing error in the eighth.

You simply cannot stretch straight ahead when the throw is going to your right. There is no excuse for any first baseman in the world not to stretch his lead foot to the right when the throw is headed in that direction. Piss-poor footwork on the part of the first baseman caused that error as much as the bad, hurried throw by the second baseman. The first baseman MUST help his teammate on that play.

Because of those two mistakes by those two fielders, the Beavers are CWS champs.

 

The Beavers are champions because they played better defense throughout the series, because Carolina couldn't capitalize on numerous great scoring chances late, and because Oregon State won six games in a row when faced with elimination.
