    My dog lays down with his paw cock-eyed also; anyone know why they do that? He did it from the time he was a pup and 6 yrs later he's still doing it. Looks painful to me.

    Cats do it too.

    My two theories:

    The paw(s) serve as a pillow to prop their head/neck into a more comfortable position.

    Or, the paw serves as a warm heating pad.
