I like to think he's not crooked, but something is definitely fishy. Like, week-old dead tuna on the dock fishy.
I looked again at the five-player trade they made. One of the big players involved was Portis, who went to Mr. Absent's team. The other decent running back in the Manning-Palmer-Johnson trade? Clinton Portis, who went back to the commish's team.
Then, I just checked the live scoring. All of a sudden, Manning is in Mr. Absent's lineup. Our deadline is supposed to be the start of the early games, and he sure as shit wasn't there then. His flex spot is still empty, but there's no one he could stick in there. Everybody has already played or is on byes.
This stinks to high heaven. I intend to talk to the other owners.

I think that's a good plan. It looks like he's running a crooked ship. It's no coincidence that Portis struggles all season, then once he runs for 100 yards last week, he's dealt back.

Can you veto trades? When I set my first few leagues up, I made it so I had total access to allow and deny trades. If managers wanted to air their grievances (on Festivus or not), they could do so, and I'd collect their votes. Now, since I've wised up, it's a majority-rule vote on the Yahoo! site. If seven of the 12 managers veto a trade, it doesn't go through. Maybe something like that should be set up in your league for next season, if you decide to stay there. That helps police the league a little bit.

Thanks to Peterson's shitty day and Kitna's poor first half, it sure looked like I was going to lose. But my gamble of picking up and starting the Bears defense is paying off and I am only down 8 points with Tomlinson and Josh Brown yet to play.

Good times. I smell 7-3 coming on.

I forgot to mention who the idiot picked up in place of Marvin Harrison: Ike Hilliard. The same Ike Hilliard that sportsline lists as a quality No. 4 WR and the one that is on bye this week.

I'm playing the guy that dropped him and he started Amani Toomer. He also drafted Tiki Barber.

I'm looking forward to taking these schmucks money.

Have you ever seen Orange County? When I read it was Hilliard for Harrison, I said, "What the fff" aloud.

And this is a paid league? Holy Christ. Someone's going to have plenty of beer money come January.

I ended up playing neither Rudi or Watson and played Chris Henry at my flex position. Incidentally, I also had Shayne Graham, who scored more points than any of them.
Side note, this is a keeper league, and I'm quite certain that I won't have any Cincinnati RBs on my roster next season.

A few years back, one of the janitors in our office was in the league. He was a little slow, and there were a few owners who tried to take advantage of him on trades, so we did set up some sort of veto committee. But he left, and the rest of the owners know what they're doing, so we pretty much go on the honor system. If you're dumb enough to draft Tiki Barber or trade LaDainian Tomlinson for Ruben Droughns, it's your own fault. And if a lopsided trade happens with an 0-8 team and an 8-1 team, others in the league are smart enough to raise a stink about it. We actually have kicked one or two people out for trying to pull some shenanigans.
And I didn't notice the Portis thing until today, but I intend to mention it to a few people.

And an update on the lineup situation...apparently, I was wrong on the deadline. You can make changes up t five minutes before any game's kickoff. So he was OK to put in Manning after the early games had started. Apparently, the guy's daughter has been sick and he hasn't been able to get to the web site for a couple days. So he called the commissioner this afternoon and had him change it for him. Something still seems fishy, though.

I got lucky in my main league. I was forced to start Ted Ginn at WR, sat Jason Campbell, Peterson gets hurt and the Washington defense lays an egg. By all accounts, my seven-game winning streak should be over. Thankfully, Kurt Warner apparently was hypnotized into thinking it was still 2000, Westbrook went off like a bomb and Joshua Cribbs had a sick day on returns. Plus, my opponent has Driver, LenDale, Addai, Witten and the Pittsburgh defense, all of whom GREATLY under-performed. Phew.

I, too, am singing the praises of Westbrook this evening. In a Yahoo league I have him and McNabb (filling in for Brady) and snagged Maurice Jones-Drew in a trade this week. Plus, I was playing the guy in second place. 9-1, here I come!

In other news, the Manning situation in my other league is really starting to piss me off. Mr. Absent also has the Colts D and Vinatieri. So thanks to Norv Turner and the Chargers' impending tank job, I may actually end up losing this week. Fuck!

Damn skippy, Mike. Ended up winning by 14 points. Thank God these shenanigans didn't end up costing me. If Moorehead had caught that long pass toward the end I would have lost (this league gives bonuses for touchdown length; over 40 yards is 12 points).
I don't mind the Colts. Really, I don't. They play the right way and win with class. I've even had a soft spot for them since the days of Jim Harbaugh. But tonight? Fuck 'em. Just...just fuck 'em.

I've got Manning and Wayne in one league, so all those interceptions -- and the -12 points that came with them -- were negated by that one touchdown pass to No. 87. I'll probably still win that league, but I will most certainly lose in the other league.

Thank God for Brett Favre guaranteeing a victory in the third league.
