Running Football Tab Thread

Today, I come in to start to plan where everything is going to go in our college section which prints Wednesday and comes out Thursday.

I notice on the page dummies laid on my desk that a local car dealer has bought a 6 column, half-page ad, and it's on ....THE COVER.

Can't wait to hash this one out on Monday.

 

At our paper, we had 28 pages. Ad dept. did good job selling it (like has been said if you can't sell this thing you don't deserve to be in the business). I did the entire thing by myself in three 12-hour days -- layout, editing everything. After laying it out, three writers gave it a read (if you could call it that), then after making all of their corrections I read it myself again.
I was pretty happy with it -- except for the cover photo, which was blurry as hell. I was so pissed. Asked the photog to put in a non-blurry photo, and the other one was even more blurry. Unbelievable. But I was really happy with it except for that.
Work six days this week with that at the front end. Then start college tab Monday -- three more 12-hour days for me. But I love this time of year. And I like our college theme even more than the prep one.

 

Ours just about perfect. They delayed the start of press until about 4 a.m., and one of two last minute negatives were sent back to the pressroom. One wasn't put on. Our original is missing too...possibly not saved since it was a last minute deal. It screwed up a linked jump by one line. One motherfuckin line.

Sometimes it seems as if there's no perfect slam dunk in this shit. I layed out the entire 36 page section while also doing the regular section thanks to our fucking cuts. It just chaps my ass. Other than this, it was one of our better ones. But I swear I'm cursed.

Hey prick, it ain't my fault that TPTB overload their asses. It causes a cancer that curses everything. Overload affects quality, schedules become late, and no matter what the assignment, the deadline order becomes chaos.

But you're still a prick for your smartass demeanor.

Deadline is tomorrow.
Headshots for last team were today. Coaches forgot, sent kids home early. So I didn't get them. There is no way this thing is getting done in time. There is nothing I can do to get it done quicker besides not put head shots in of this team (one of the local teams that is covered extensively). Already put the foot down on two other teams (out of the area kind of) because they never got back to me. Will write some stupid preview story full of cliches and blah blah blah for those two.

The funny thing is, right now, I'm nervous, heart is going crazy because I'm scared of it not getting done in time and out before the first friday of football (sept 1). If it's up to me, I'd have it come out on Monday or Tuesday and allow me an extra day to get it done the right way instead of half-assed. Then again, you can all sit there and say it's my fault for this happening because I didn't get on it earlier but whatever, I don't care.

Hopefully I'll get fired.
